I never said it was new. And if you read the wiki the one from 1947 had nothing to do with an eletro magnetic system

Funnily enough my science teacher at school had this idea of electromagnetic controlled valves so he sent his idea to porsche. They wrote back saying that the only problem was that electromagnets generate alot of excess heat and would get to hot. this was probally 15 years ago now tho.

Several brand have tested such systems. The problems I'm aware of are:
- the power consumption
- the noise, they are as noisy as classic diesels. They require a lot of CPU power to decrease noise and consumption.

I believe Porsche use a very clever hydrolic system of modern engines, in the middle between F1 and classic VVT.
