I've done it to most of mine (excluding the diesel thing atm)

Never done it to a turbo - but on a carb'd engine, you simply plonk the vac advance tube into a 1L bottle of water, and rev the tits off the engine. You shouldn't be able to hit the rev limiter, as you'll struggle to get it to maximum revs with all the water choking the engines capabilities

I can't think of any real way to do it to a turbo engine, without also having it pass through the intercooler - where it would just sit! It may be worth just removing the hosing for the turbo, and run the car NA for the cleaning

lol, oh yeah, and dont do it near any other cars, as they WILL get covered in lots of little black spodges. You'll also get a little bit of steam out of the exhaust for a few miles afterwards, just because of the water that got trapped in the exhaust

Listen to Vegard. The water is not a good idea!!!!!!!
You'll end up with all sorts of problems tipping in water, in a uncontrolled manner. Look what happens if you drive your car through a ford or deep water..............

I couldn't see a problem if you use one of them spray bottles that sprays a mist when you pull the trigger, I would think you could control it quite accurately that way. *oh well*

If you smear a ring of grease round the top of the bore and turn the engine over by hand the majority of shite will stick to the grease and can then be wiped off. *wink*

only problem matty, is that if you have an intercooler, the water will condense in the intercooler, and could stay there undetected, until something happens which would cause the puddle of water to be sucked up, bogging down the engine, and possibly stalling it by soaking the plugs with water if it's only idling

and TBH, if you're going to clean the pistons in-situ, then you deserve to have your bores fucked over TBH. If you're going to do it, do it properly IMHO

still dont see what you gain by cleaning the inside of an engine when it will be dirty within a few miles anyway!

But as it looked crappy, i just thought it would need a clean, and didn't know it would be the same after few miles...
Ill leave it..

I was thinking more along the lines of spraying it straight into the carb as that would illimate it collecting up anywhere.

As you've got the head off try a little Mr Muscle oven cleaner, it brings up pistons a treat.

With the pistons in the engine ? V said that the grit will get down The sides ?
Have you tried this your self rob ?

Sorry for the delay in getting back on this. I have used Mr Muscle oven cleaner a few times on various engines. I've always cleaned the pistons at the top of the bores then turn the engine round by hand and whipped the bores. Although there is a risk of getting dirt in the ring lans, but then if the pistons are badly coked that ain't much good either.
