I can make a mini oversteer or understeer for a few pence so why would I need a rear anti rollbar?
What is the reson to fit one?
Regards
Dave

Thair is a big advantage to an arb but the problem is getting it set properly or it will make things worse rather than better. Mini spares, KAD , owensfabrication, all sell arb's for minis.
A front one is usually only used with a lsd

I know many people who have tried front anti roll bars on mini's but have ended up removing them. I don't think many of the miglias run them any more.

Probibly right Jim but don't the Miglia guys use the rear bar in another way than was intended. with a little toe out on the rear wheels, when the inside wheel lifts in a corner, caused by the roll bar, the toe out generates a crude rear wheel steer situation. Did i get that right??

Yes think thats rite, its toe in tho not out ? , loads of migs were using front roll bars with steering dampeners, am sure thats so wen they bump over the kerbs it doesnt just throw the car across the track.

If its toe in the wheels point towards each other in the forward direction?

I understood it as toe out

If the rear wheels are toe out the arc generated by the outside wheels in a corner is much shorter. I can relate it to the arc of the rails on a snowboard, the shorter the arc the quicker the turn. After all, most of the weight is on the outer wheels in the corner, hence why it doesnt matter that the inner rear lifts.

I have my car setup with quite a bit of rear toe out on the rear. This gives a rear wheel steering situation in turns. ( I do not run a rear ARB and will not do it either). All the weight moves to the outer wheel when turning in, and then the rear wheel start its search toward the grass:) this is a fun way of driving a mini.

I'll try to post something more in depth when I can but I consider a rear ARB to be an essential for a track Mini. On the road I think that you should have your drivign licence permenantly removed long before you are pushing a Mini hard enough to feel the benefits!

Whilst it is true that you can change the handling balance of the car without using ARBs you have to compromise the other settings to acheive it.

As I said before you can get good benefits, especially on bumpy surfaces, by using softer springs to deal with the bumps and use the ARB to control the roll (which in turn has effects on camber, castor and weight transfer).

In the same way as Benross says "an intercooler isn't the icing on the cake it's more cake" I'm going to say "ARBs aren't just for fine tuning an ajustable suspension setup it allows it allows it to actually work"

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

That's not the reason. The reason for fitting the damper is to give the car good initial bite for quick turn in, but as the damper moves, give the inner wheel traction. Remember Migs don't have a LSD. If they did, the damper wouldn't be there.

Does anybody have any updated thoughts on this subject?

Looking at a rear ARB for my mini (road, but with a bit of track time thrown in for good measure) and wondering about whether or not I need a front one too.

Have you exploited all other possibilities for running the car as fast as you can on track? ARBs just throw a lot of more unknowns into the equation. I'd never bother on a road car.
