So, out of interest ..... how much has it cost you so far? I bet it's less than my fav spray gun!!!!!

It just goes to show what can be achieved if you try hard enough ... goo work fella!!

just the underside, interior, boot and engine bay to do ...... cheaper and more fun than gym membership .... look on the bright side ... LOL

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Good effort. A friend showed me the same thing on retro rides, a guy did a volv 240 estate in brown and stuck some wood effect vinyl on the side. looked pretty good from what i remember. was really detailed on the paint mix and sanding and which rollers to use.

lol @ roger I know, should have done the interior as well couldn't bring myself to tackle it though, just cover it with carpet for the time being I think!

It wouldn't have happened if I'd had to pay to get it sprayed probably would've been sold for peanuts on ebay by now, stumbling across that link when I did was a real bit of luck. Lets see;

£13.80 p/litre - 3l Hammerite smooth
£5.97 p/500ml - 1l Hammerite thinners
£2.50 - 1l panel wipe
£2.50 2 x 4" rollers
99p - 3 paint brushes
£1 - 3 foam blocks
£3 - 5 x 1200 wet/dry
£3 - 5 x 1000 wet/dry
£3 - 5 x 600 wet/dry
£3 - 5 x 180 wet/dry
------------------------
£74.63
+labour (priceless!)

How did you get on with the scuttle to wing part in getting it all smooth?
Got any pictures of that bit?

With difficulty, lol. Can't say I'm all that happy with it at all. I'd tried sanding it in a way that left the seam visible but it didn't look right in the end I lost patience and just built it up with filler then smoothed it off. The only way to do it really is fill, sand, get some paint down see how it looks then rub back and repeat. I think its probably passable when you stand back and view the car as a whole and its a little more forgiving with it being white. I know its gonna bug me though. *angry*

Cheers Carl just the man I was looking for infact. What arches have you got on yours? I've taken the rear bumper off mine and really like the way the rear arches curve round the back on yours.

thought it might have been fun! As I haven't sorted the engine yet the thought of £900 ish being spare is very attractive. Still might give it a go in a few months time. :)

@Monster I'd go for it mate, worst case scenario you have to buy a few tins of nitromoors and wasted (quite a few) weekends!

there sportspacks mate, but i chopped out/ filled the bumper recesses/mouldings. they turned out good but it was a bit worring cutting the arches id just spent loads of money.

i cut the bumper bits off then fiberglassed mesh on the back then fibreglass up.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

I bet! you did a spot on job though looks great. Gotta admit yours was a big inspiration in painting mine white, if the finished product turns out half as good I'll be extremely happy.

Just updating with the latest happenings. Paintings all but finished now just needs arches and bonnet finishing and a good polish. Paint hasn't flaked off anywhere so far, it hasn't been exposed to the elements yet though so fingers crossed!

Had the mini out today with a view to getting it running well as it was rough as when it finally started up. Got it timed up and dialed the idle mixture in based on checking the colour of the plugs. It's running a lot better but it does seem slightly 'tappy', been so long since I've heard an A-series engine run I'm not sure if its healthy or not, might have a look at valve clearances tommorow. But the good news is no smoke and nothings exploded!*happy*

I wonder if you could spray it with one of those airless electric spray guns and the smooth hammerite? might help with the bubbles?

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

i wonder how qd90 mixed with thinners would come out. you can mix qd90 but can mix hammerite. even though they are basically the same (as far as im aware anyway!)

I think the secrets pretty much out.

EDIT: and this is one of the main reasons why progress on my clubby has stalled.
