why exactly are sliding calipers crap? I can see that they maybe seem to flex more due to the design, but they have a good deal of pros to…no fluid ways running over the disk, easy service, cheap, big pads (don´t know if thats better than small ones…) they are about 2 kg including mounting bracket not that far off s calipers i guess…

Thanks for the kind words Nic, mucho appreciated!

It´s a suzuki swift engine, G13B variant

Everyones got different preferances when it comes to braking and brake in different manners.

I know i dont like cars with servos. Theres no effort

The flex and potenial for siezing/uneven pad wear is a trade off for swept area. Plus all the M sport BMs (M3 M5 and lardy X5s) run twin piston sliding rather than the usual monoblock 4 pistons.

looks just like mine.. We did mine this time last year with a friend from the local mini club.. top job and much better than the drums I had fitted. We then created the how to vid..

The mini addicts vid?

had a little prob with the metro drive flange bolts, they have metric threads, i used the original 8,4 bolts but don´t know if they are up to the job? They are a bit shorter and have smaller head, is it possible to re tapp the disks?

cheers

Yep we used the mini bolts... it was a mistake on the vid.. but we put an update on the miniaddicts web site. I must admit I never re-edited the vid.. I'm not sure we still have the original footage to edit it anymore...

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

IMO the brakes on my 10" are as good as the 8.4" setup on a 12" mini, not bad when you think you are loosing the extra torque arm effect.

They are cheaper that the Alloy options esp if you are upgrading from drums. The single sliding mech is good if you keep them serviced, just like any brakes really.

I would be interested to try the setup with the Yellow tag MC, as I'm using the single circuit bean can .70

I´m having 0.625 girling cylinder, single line system, was first using bean can on my S brakes, not so good…very hard pedal, 0.625 is loads better! Whats the size of the the yellow one?

Thanks for the vids, find them very useful - you guys should be on TV:)

The vid idea was to make the how to's on my local clubs website a little easier.. (Miniaddicts) but the interest on you tube seem to have grown all over the globe, scary really.

The yellow tag is .75 to the front and .70 rear but its twin circuit hence why I have never changed. I friend was using a .625 on a 6 pot setup but it he found a better pedal with a .75 (He used a clutch MC as the original .75 single hasn't been available for ages) He had to mod the MC I think it was something to do with the return spring.

Thanks for the info regarding tandem master, i was under the impression that if you downsize master cylinder bore you increase line pressure = more brake clamping force (but less fluid moved), please correct me if im wrong*happy*
A bit curious in how much fluid the single pot fiestas need compared to other calipers…

When I looked into it... it also depends on cylinder size at both ends of the circuit.

I'm happy with the .75 but you do get a shock when you jump in from a modern servo car. Its all about feel which is personal.. he found that the 6 pots when smaller Sq area that the kad 4 pots he had on before. The .625 cylinder made the pedal too hard to get the car to slow down if I remember correctly...
