Well an update!

After much fannying about managed to pump the diesel out of the Peugeot, by god they don't half make it difficult for you to siphon fuel out, even when it is YOUR fuel!!

Anyway, put the diesel into my Audi, two jerrycans worth, 40L, from the filling station receipt my mate had put just shy of 40L in, so as someone has said the Peugeot must have been running on fumes.

Put the Peugeot back together after pumping it out (had to remove the filler neck amongst other things....) and put 30L of Shells best v-power super unleaded in it, figured the extra octane might just help it along whilst it still has some contamination in it.
Fired it up, at first it ran as normal until a bit of diesel came through, then obviously it started running rough and cut out. Then we had approx 5min of cranking it over in 10 sec bursts before it started trying to fire again. Another 2 min of this saw it firing more and more regularly until it would just about run, idle speed very roughly but held at 1500 to 2000rpm a lot better, gradually improving all the time until it would rev up smoothly without misfiring, and then it would idle OK too. My mate had a gentle drive up the road and back, said it was running fine and as normal, by this time it was 11pm so I buggered off and left him to it but I don't anticipate any problems to be honest.

Drove my Audi home, no noticable difference in how it drove, I had put about 10L of diesel in it on the way to my mates, then the 40L of contaminated, and then topped it up with some more from the petrol station approx another 15L, seems to be fine, I'll keep topping it up for a week or so. My car is neither a common rail or a PD, just a Bosch rotary injection pump here, I think it will be OK TBH, as the Bosch pumps are known to be able to run on veg oil without suffering unduly, whereas the Lucas injector pumps cannot as they rely more on the lubricating properties of what they are pumping.

Cheers for all the opinions guys.

veggie oil in the V6 could be tempting - its costing me approx £100/ week at the moment to run mine!

With the current prices and the V6 TDI's lack of economy around town I have to say that a low 30's mpg petrol car is becoming a more and more attractive option.

Tom

I got the car re-mapped a few months back and it does make a differance - i'm now averaging 29.5 as opposed to 28.2 mpg before!! working that out on fuel costs a couple of years and I might get something close to my investment back!

At the moment I'm about 60% in town and the rest motorway. A good chunk of my work at the moment is insurance assessments so i'm carrying ladders on the roof which does make a difference

having complained about the MPG, I wouldnt change it - cracking tow car and comfy for the daily commute
