Update

Well after much fannying around it's still not sorted, still slips and is pissing me off. So took it off again this morning.

Now Carls said something to me right at the start, it turns out he's right. The new spring supplied in the kit is bobbins, piss weak. So I have an old one that seems much better to put on.

The only problem now is getting the new oil seal in, any tips?

i've got the proper tool if you want it? postage each way suits! i.e. a pint and get it back to me

will , youm just remeinded me i have a small pile of these under my bench at home, as spares for centres, ypou are welcome to root through them if you want , may find a thicker one,.

normaly if i have to put one in the engine bay, I slip the oil seal on the primary gear frist, slide it onto the crank and then tap it around with a hammer or big pinch, it's not easy but i find it easyer then doing it with out it on the p gear.

Cheers for all the offers guys. but found a decent centre with a 'spring' that passed the 'foot-test', and got the seal on using Matt method (I could kiss you Matt, in nearly 20 years of messing with Minis I've never thought of doing it that way).

So, I'll test it when I get the carb rebuilt.

Just to confirm, the new (or old) spring is working perfectly, no slips at all. Roll on York.

When I get the chaance I'll pop back to MS and tell them what they sold me was shit.

This sort of confirms what Setevie said years ago about Verto clutches, some of the springs are way better than others.

Was it a standard verto cover or the special heavy duty one?

Mine has a 190mm dia spring and it's about 0.090" thick.

I'm hoping its going to be good for 90 ftl.

I actually have two or three differnt design in my garage now. The MS one liiks like this:



And was rubbish.

The one I have now used looked totally different and the spring part was much thicker gauge metal. It was embossed with 'VELO'. I have another one the same, so I'll get a photo and do some measurements, won't get chance tonight though.
