yep brill choive, ive driven a 130 bhp deo and was super to drive better than any petrol car of the same cc.

tons of torque.

you can be cruising in top doing 60 floor the peddel and of they go, unlike a petrol were you need to drop 2 cogs to get the same response.

a bit like driving a auto.

my mate has a sri 150 bhp tractor and loves it to bits, and gets over 55 mpg avarage, you wont get that out of a petrol of same hp.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

The reason diesels get better MPG then petro is that they can run very lean on cruise. They have no butterfy in the inlet to restrict flow and power is determined by the amount of fuel you put in. So a remap should put more fuel in the power region and keep it about the same at cruise. Therefore as on the road you rarely use full power for long periods (I know you like to think you do but you don't) you get great mpg from diesels.

This is why the talk of Le Mans diesel cars winning because of MPG is bollocks. They are flat out all the time, no cruise, so they use as much if not more than an equivelent petrol.

just dug out the spec. - 0-60 in 8.7 and 137mph; I somehow thought that it'd be faster than that, it certainly look faster.

My Subaru is currently averaging 24.9 mpg.

For some reason factory 0-60 times for diesels never seem that quick but in reality it's a different story. Anyone see top gear when the VRS Fabia killed a Bini Cooper from standing start? The VRS should be at least .4 seconds down, in reality it looked a whole second infront by 60mph.

So there are no down sides of getting it remapped then really, apart from the cash. What are your thoughts on these bluefin thingys by superchips, is every st tdci the same, or do they all have to be mapped?

What's happened to the mighty focus jim?

Nice looking car and practical too. You will use more fuel if you have it mapped as you will boot it more, still worth it though.

the le mans cars will always use less fuel per lap than the petrols, its simple realy. diesel is some 83% efficient when it burns weres petrol is only 70ish % when it burns.

the trouble is its taken so long to enhance the low down grunt a performance of diesels unlike the petrols .

i will put a tenner here and now that in 10 years time petrol cars will be a thing of the past.

just like the 2stroke and 4 stroke outboard argument. and guess what 2stroke are nearli extinct in the outboard market, there only plus side was the weight advatage.

The same potential downsides apply to any engine when tuning it.

But generally, most modern turbodiesels can handle a bit more. Just make sure the clutch etc can too.

You made a decision about mappin Jim?

Just to let you know, the cars clutch on the 2.4 has started slipping due to too much power looks like. Think it was on its way out anyway before the map.
