The reason diesels get better MPG then petro is that they can run very lean on cruise. They have no butterfy in the inlet to restrict flow and power is determined by the amount of fuel you put in. So a remap should put more fuel in the power region and keep it about the same at cruise. Therefore as on the road you rarely use full power for long periods (I know you like to think you do but you don't) you get great mpg from diesels.

just dug out the spec. - 0-60 in 8.7 and 137mph; I somehow thought that it'd be faster than that, it certainly look faster.
Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

For some reason factory 0-60 times for diesels never seem that quick but in reality it's a different story. Anyone see top gear when the VRS Fabia killed a Bini Cooper from standing start? The VRS should be at least .4 seconds down, in reality it looked a whole second infront by 60mph. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

So there are no down sides of getting it remapped then really, apart from the cash. What are your thoughts on these bluefin thingys by superchips, is every st tdci the same, or do they all have to be mapped? Team www.sheepspeed.com Racing

the le mans cars will always use less fuel per lap than the petrols, its simple realy. diesel is some 83% efficient when it burns weres petrol is only 70ish % when it burns.

But generally, most modern turbodiesels can handle a bit more. Just make sure the clutch etc can too. 9.85 @ 145mph
