how come you believe the duplex chain is a waste?

You might as well go the extra and fit the adjustable duplex chain kit.

I have one engine with the standard chain and one with the vernier adjustable setup. It just means you can tune the engine just so if you take the fancy to.

One component you missed was a new oil pump and I would recommend fitting a secondary magnetic pick-up in the back of the gear box. After seeing the crap it catches that gets past the screen I will be fitting one of these every time!

it's a waste because it'll give no more on a turbocharged a serie than a simple one.then I never got any troubles with the std set up, just use keys to adjust lca.

give no more what fab?

im not saying they add power, just reliability as they wont snap with heavy springs, or stretch half as much, hence their existance

I think Fabrice is saying he feels the duplex chain is OTT.

A good quality simplex (OE) vs any of the many duplex's out there that seem to be poorer quality might well suggeast there is something to this claim.

The stock MG turbo managed with dual springs and a simplex chain pretty well.

I don't recall EVER hearing of a simplex failure actually.

Finally, add to the stories of how much a chain reputedly 'stretches' when bedding in, and it makes sense that you could instead use a simplex that has already served its donor engine (say in a low-mile 998) and would stretch less, weigh less, and potentiall last longer than a crap-quality duplex chain...

so add a new set of followers obviously and a new oil pump and see how the funds go when it comes to the timing chain.

Eeep!

140BANANAS!

I reckon that will scare me plenty if not too much.

What sort of torque do you reckon this would equate to out of interest?

Just had a little look back over this post. Would seem that my spec has changed somewhat over the last few months. *hehe!*

My latest purchases included Richies engine and now some 73.5mm Accralites

Ok here is my new proposed spec:-

73.5mm Accralite 18cc Pistons
Fully rebuilt, balanced metro turbo bottom end
BENROSS cylinder head (11 stud)
ARP head studs and rod bolts
Avonbar phase 2 Cam
Duplex timing gear (timed with offset key)
Ported water jacket
Minispares steel pre-verto flywheel
Rally clutch plate
Double grey diaphragm
SC drops
Paul Wigington oil baffle tray
Metro turbo challenge SC/CR gearset
Quaife ATB with 2.95 Diff
Metro T3 with BENROSS ported manifold and elbow
Avonbar actuator
Megajolt
NIC stainless plenum
NIC's old intercooler
Maniflow downpipe
Playmini stainless exhaust

Was thinking a max boost of 20psi

What do people think to this spec? Any guesstimates on banana's and curly wurlies?
