I'm with you Evo, the part has been in for four seasons and it's taken some shit. Hit plenty of curbs, and taken loads of sudden jolts of power before now.
Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

I ended up at Curborough in the pouring rain all day in my standard Rover Mini Cooper ( my daily driver ), 2 race cars both broke, my ex Phil Short car has got a misfire I've not had time to fix and the 998 Turbo has got a broken crank.

That sound bad Graham, I was looking forward to a little race too. we ran mid 35s all day which we were a little dissapointed with.

doesnt look like the fatuige failure iv seen when i was at college. Sharp edges where unnoticed cracks reasonate from, the mark grows un-noticed, opening and cloing but being very fine line which can go unoticed even if searched for, then when you get to the point of failer, the point where the remaining part of the shaft cant handle the power it will snap. The tell tail of this type of failer is smooth area where the crack was allowed to "open n close" and where it hits the failer point you will see cast type marking and grain structure

smooth is (aparently) an overload failure, the kind of failure you would expect if you were wheelspinning and suddenly found traction and shock loaded the drivetrain :)
