Looks like you have found the problem - well done and good luck. If you want to clean the piston and dashpot with something more than carb cleaner, try chrome cleaner or car body polish. If that doesn't solve it, suggest you follow the advice re engineer's blue and establish where it is catching and take it from there. Philtune

Sounds to be it..
A couple of times I have managed to secure the needle with the screw but not found the slit in the holder. because of this the screw does not go all the way in and sits just proud of the piston, check that as well...

interestingly I'm getting the same thing on my SC setup. I have rebuilt the carb and installed a new dashpot and piston from a new old stock SU. but still get the issue..

Will have another look at the piston

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!
