Matt,

I'm well impressed with your kits and wish you all the best.

I'm going to buy a kit in the next few months, but without a major cost saving, it's not worth the risk of buying something from Aus.

It would only take one part to be wrong and the cost of sorting that out, given the distance, would quickly negate any saving.

Wolfie,

How are you working out the exchange rate? Are you using the average tourist one?
Just that there are ways and means of getting a better rate, have a look here for a comparison www.ukforex.co.uk
As for shipping, I have shipped some parts from the UK and the cost was not as bad as expected. It can't be that different the other way round!
Anyway, I'll be posting some pic of the engine rebuild on here shortly *happy*

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I've not checked for a while, take it it's not 3:1 anymore *oh well*
Oh well looks like I'm the only pom to purchase one then.
I'm going back to the UK for Chriistmas if anyone does buy one and end up needing a part or something, taking 3 empty cases worth 28kg each, thats if anyone's interested!

Its the Brisbane "Mini Muster" I think that was the last day of winter, you can tell that because most Aussies wear socks with there flip-flops in Winter *tongue* Being a Pom and use to a proper Winter I still go bare foot thr out the season.

Anyway, got this from the exchange rate company today which is quite a good sign for all you prospective buyers!

Just a short note to let you know that the GBP/AUD rate opened today at a 5-month high of 2.1900. In volatile trade this morning, it briefly touched 2.2000. This represents an appreciation of 7.5 per cent compared to just seven weeks ago on July 23, 2008 when it was trading at 2.0470. The recent low was 2.0298 on June 4, 2008. The Australian Dollar has weakened significantly due to a strong U.S. Dollar and an end to the tightening cycle in official interest rates. Last Tuesday, The Reserve Bank of Australia cut interest rates for the first time in 7 years by 25 basis points to 7.00 per cent and has more than hinted at lower rates in a recent statement saying “with domestic demand slowing, the Board’s view is that scope to move towards a less restrictive stance of monetary policy in the period ahead is increasing”. Financial markets have taken the view that further moves down in interest rates are imminent.

The Pound could gain more strength against the Aussie from here but there is significant volatility and renewed weakness cannot be discounted.

If you have been holding off transferring Pounds against the Australian Dollar, you may wish to consider converting funds at these more attractive levels. Please contact us to book a rate or to discuss your requirements.

Hope this helps 8-)

Thanks "Is Vic there" , you`re a champion *smiley* & yeah your gearbox will be finished next week, engine block is well on it`s way to being modded, cheers mate

& to all who are keen to know,,, i was going to reply to the 5 million PMs i have recieved but it`s probably just easier to post it here... so please accept my appologies to all who are waiting a personal reply,,, because here is your reply

The price for my kit is $1250(AusD), this includes all the pulleys (Both Bimmer cam pulleys are 3-piece sandwich plate adjustable), both main front cyl head & the engine/timing plates, the little alloy front cyl head plate sealing flange piece, both the mini cam pulley & a crank-bottom pulley & a spacer for it, a timing belt & it`s tensioner, all the bolts needed for all the pulleys & plates, 2x alloy "Fitting Plugs" to align the front cyl head plate perfectly with the 2 bimmer cams, an "S" bend pipe for the adaption of the std mini bottom rad hose to cut & fit to clear the timing belt nice & a L/H engine steady bar braket to bolt to the front cyl head plate which will allow you to mod your std mini bar to fit (lengthen it)

One of the pics shown previously shows most of the kit in it`s bare form sitting between the 2 engines at the Qld mini muster show day.

You can easilly mod the std Bimmer top water outlet to suit & you can use 2 std mini thermostat housings (back to back) to remotely house your thermostat, easy-peasy & cost diddly squat... make a few oil drains-n-breathers easy enough yourself, fit an oil feed hose to the head ...or alternatively just groove (Die grind) your front cam bearing and angle drill & plug the cyl head to line up with the original mini oil feed hole in the block for constant oil feed to the head... again it`s easy peasy & costs diddly squat to do.

sorry but at this stage i have no idea how much your import duty/tax is,, but the weight of the entire kit all packaged up will be about 7kgs if you`d like to calculate the freight costs,,,

please bare in mind that our freight costs to you are far less than your freight costs to us (((by a fair bit))) & i will sort a shipping cost per kit shortly, but if some of you banded together then i`m sure Aust post could work out a better rate with quantity.

sorry for the delay in relaying the cost but it`s all sorted now & you`d need to be quick,,, they`re selling like hot cakes & i probably won`t make another run of them till late next year. Just too dam busy really.

My Build guide is in the process & it will be on CD & hopefully finished within a month or 2, & it will cover a whole pile of options from small bore to large bore,,, N/A or forced induction,,, ancillarys inc oil feed, oil filler, oil drains, engine steadys, water outlets, thermostat, top rad braket, etc etc etc & i will send one to any & all who purchase a fitting kit (free of charge),,, & no my kit doesn`t come with a head gasket because you can simply use the std BK450 Payen gasket,,, provided you wad punch the extra Bimmer holes, easy-peasy & works a treat,,, so why spend big money on something you don`t need???

If/when ordering you will need to specify "small bore" or "Big Bore" also specify 8v or 16v as i`ve designed the kits seperately to suit each option, front head plates, flange pieces & timing belts differ to suit each application... that`s all & isn`t hard to understand yeah???

i hope you don`t feel i`m too casual about all this but i think you may all be better off buying one of John-Ks kits as he`s close to you & more readilly avaliable & i expect far less hassel with costs & after sales service etc & what-nots,,, i`m not really meaning to put you off at all,,, just that i`m not sure of all the total costs to you guys just yet & besides that, John makes a wonderful kit at an excellent cost & i just don`t think i can compete simply because of freight & import costs/taxes, but we`ll soon see once i`ve done an estimate & got word back from a few of you with your import taxes etc.

I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your intrest & i hope to be able to help you all as best i can.

As most of you should know by now i have made as much info about these conversions on my web site years & years ago so any & all mini enthusiasts can benefit from such a great conversion & i hope to be able to continue helping in the future

I am making these kits avaliable at my own cost price,,, yes, they owe me that money """EXCept""" for the fact that i`ve covered 4x kits for myself,,, so i`m not making any money from the sales of these kits,,, I`m just making 4x of my own engines to be converted,,, However, in the future (the next batch) i will charge more tho.

Yes i probably shoud have kept my mouth shut about this conversion & obviously would have made some dam good money ... but that isn`t & never was my intention,,, I`m a born & bred mini man (as you all should allready know) & whatever i can do to help anyone with minis i will & allways will do

cheers & thanks again for your enthusiasm

Edit,,, Oh yeah , i have made jigs up for making both N/A extractors & under bonnet turbo manifolds with dump pipes & have plenty of them in stock ,,, sold seperately. ,..Cyl head Oil feed hoses are being made right now & i will start on an oil drain/engine breather package shortly, after i have our turbo moke making some decent numbers on the dyno *smiley* stay tuned *smiley*
