not sure on other brands but the oil stat ive got has a small internal bypass to bled air and keep a tinny bit of flow threw the cooler at all times while running avoids air or stone cold oil getting pushed to the bearings im told not enugh to alter tepms but enugh to stop air or sudden hot cold changes

The oil temperature creeps up so slowly that (on my Mocal) the thermostat will only be open a fraction when the oil is just above 80C, so will very slowly purge out the cold oil back into the hot oil stream. Even when the thermostat is fully open, it only directs some of the oil through the cooler and it will mix back in with the hot oil.

I run a cooler with no stat, as I was seeing oil temps of a 120/130 on long runs of boost, I fitted the cooler and it keeps it at a nice 100 now.
I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

any reason you couldn't run the cooler as a bleed back system?

You want to control the temperature of the oil going to the bearings - this is a function of the temperature in the sump, so there may be merit in that.

Alex, don't you also want to know the max temp as the oil 'breaks-up' over a certain temperature? Dazed and Confused.... |
