Ah the '70s. They used to set the tires on fire back then too. What about using some of that tire softener juice you can get?

Anyone tried these DOT rated tyres on 1/4 mile
They used to be the best 'road tyre' for hillclimbing
as soft as the softest avon slick [I'm talking last century mind ]

can't seem to make the link specific to the tyre type ?

I don't think they make a 10" road legal slick? The DONs tyres are road legal.

It should be noted...DOT tyres are not road legal at all in the UK.

All road legal tyres must carry an E marking in the UK....and very few, if any of those American tyres carry this.
But from a competition point of view, where they require road legal tyres, they allow the DOT drag radials.

DOT radials or wrinkle walls, do not have sufficient tread to make them road legal within the E-marking Euro crappy thing.

It would be handy if they were road legal...it might save me having so many damn wheels and tyres !!!!!

yes its a good topic ,, i think this bit of script from that site is pretty interesting , it may open the doors to a whole lot of tyres .

''I had them on my Cobra and whilst questions were asked on occasions at MOT time, there is no legal requirement for tyres to be DOT or E marked in the UK. To get a definitive statement, I went direct to the DOT and got a written statement from them that I could use at MOT time. The only requirement is that they are in good condition and that the tread depth complies with the legal requirements. All the tyres I used had "For Racing Purposes Only - Not For Highway Use" written on the sidewall.''

from what i can see online there is nothing about a tyre being DOT or E marked in the MOT legislation as a reason for failure.

i will double check the book tommorrow but i think this might be interesting!!

An MOT does not make a car road legal, its just a worthless piece of paper required by law.

If you want to see what makes a car road legal, that's what the Construction and Use regs are about.

As for tyres. Plain and simple, all road tyres in the UK MUST be E-marked.

Racing venues like Santa Pod etc all allow DOT tyres and call them road legal, simply because all the makers of such tyres are American, where DOT is their equivalent of the Euro E-marking.

When you see some of the US DOT tyres, it baffles me as to how they could ever be road legal anywhere.
My own ET Streets I used this year, have only 3 thin stripes around the circumference, and they are DOT tyres !!! ( Wrinkle wall too !!!! )
