what size do you guys run From what Ive researched 8mm feed and return are usual but the pump has got 10mm on the low pressure side so I will feed the pump 10mm then run a 8mm feed to the pressure regulator

Most high pressure pumps will have a MUCH larger feed from the tank than all the other pipes. That is to stop them cavitating. But that is only a very short bit of the plumbing..

The important point is that, after the pump, the flow line should be reasonably large, but, MORE IMPORTANTLY, the return from the regulator to the tank should be one size bigger.

I'm not sure it needs tro be one size bigger. I run mine 8mm feed and return and have no problems. In fact my original build ran 8mm feed and 6mm return with no problems.

Sorry, badly phrased by me... what I should have said is the safest way is to make the return one size larger....

It's all relative between pump capacity and the flow resistance of the line. The pump will overcome the flow resistance of the feed line even if it's small relative to the pump (you just get some pressure drop) but you really want close to zero pressure drop on the return line as regulators don't like spilling back against a back pressure.
Easiest way to be sure there is little to no back pressure is to go one size larger.

today I got the oil feed t-piece made up for the oil feed and pressure switch, I also made up the feed to the turbo just have to get a braided pipe to join the two together. I have also got the pipes made up ready to weld the return to the tappet chest and to weld onto the return flange then have to get a pipe to join the two together, progress is slow at the moment but I am getting closer.

I also brought a turbo carb inlet manifold and plenum for £35 so the home made one can be put on the shelf for now then maybe test it when I get the cars on the rollers, see if it flows aswell as the metro one

will the return into the tappet chest be lower that the output of the turbo? if it isnt this could cause you problems mate.

I dont know if it is or isnt im just checking to make sure it doesnt cause you future problems that could be sorted whilst it is easy to do.

after re fitting the turbo I have noticed that yes the turbo is lower than the tappet chest, this isnt a problem I will have to return to the fuel pump blank that I have, just means a little longer pipe. Thanks for pointing that out I knew there was a reason I was going to feed back to the fuel pump hole just couldnt remember why

Had a go at fitting turbo onto the mini tonight to find the exhaust part of the turbo hits the brake compensator valve so Ive had to cut it and point it up towards the bonnet, not a problem just a step backwards. I think I can then make a down pipe that comes over the top of the engine steady

also got my plenum off my dad all done looks good and also has the shim in the carb end so hope it works as it looks so much better than the metro turbo one

The mini is going on ebay this week and the turbo conversion will be too so if anybody wants either im open to offers. The wife has decided she wants a 5 door so im buying her a 106 diesel not quite the same. the only thing left to do on the turbo conversion is to buy 2 bits of pipe 1 for the feed and 1 for the return, then fit the turbo and make the down pipe which is quite an easy job.

The mini is metalic purple and silver its a high comp 998 with a 3.1:1 or 2.9:1 diff it has a stage 1 kit with rc40 a metro dizzy a modded needle electrtic fan in the inner wing, lowered, up rated tie rods 1.5 degree negative camber arms, 5.5" minilites and will do the clock on a trackday *happy* it has honda crx seats in the front and the rear trimed to match. the drivers door is dented but there is a spare door in the same colour, steering drop bracket and single centre clock, angle eye head lamps and mark2 rear lights.

I will add the ebay links if there is nobody wants them before.

Ah, the classic unfinished project "all it needs is.....". All it needs is a manifold that won't crack the first time it makes boost, a plenum that works and all the rest of the bits needed to do a turbo project work.

i always think a project, no matter how nice, is always 99% UN-finished until its up and running right.

trust me, i have 3 ljust like this!

I could finish it but the mrs wants a four door and i cant afford a stretched mini so the turbo kit must go and even if you lot think the manifold and plenum are no good the turbo is £199 new so its gotta be worth something I will get it on ebay
