:( Bad luck there...

Ha! The AFR calculator is back.. great, thats the one I use.*smiley*

Keep in mind the Omega pistons have 4.1cc deck volume so the CR was actually nearer 9.0 and you need to take 6cc out of the head to get near 8.0 CR

Yes, block may have been skimmed, head may have been too.

Safest way (IMO) is to measure everything then work out how much to open chambers (or bigger dishes).

I think he seriously needs one, this is the second turbo engine that has failed in our club, both built by the same builder. I think his mind is elsewhere around this time of year as he is a keen rally competitor and the isle of mull rally preparation takes a lot of his time around october. he is getting a bit of a bad reputation in our club for things fucking up on members cars he has worked on, however, he did a complete rebuild on my NA MG metro mini engine and that runs superb, i think he should stay away from turbo stuff.

Has any of the engines been set up properly at a RR?

Yes Carl it is, and no Vegard, i took mine to minisport and had the mixture and timing set up however i had a problem with the distributor advance, which is now fixed, i was told by Rob to get a few miles on it and then fetch it back.
In hind sight it was probably not a good idea to run it a combe.

the other engine mentioned above was nothing to do with set up, iirc his under crown cooling jets had fallen out!

Must admit it was going some, difficult to hear anything with a crash helmet on apart from the 2 or 3 loud bangs as the pistons exploded :( you live and learn.

knackered, needs a new piston, new big ends as they look overheated, new set of rings, oil pump looks good though.

That is the worst Rod, number three was down on compression but can't find anything wrong with the piston or rings.
Got another photo for you to look at, is this salvageable?, the bore has a few marks running down it, not too sure how long to run the glaze buster down it to see if it will clean it up, they arn't really deep but not as good as the other three, what i really want to know is, is it a rebore? or will it be ok if i run the tool up and down for a minute or two to see if it will clean up. Best pictures i can get.

Very difficult to say from a photo, they often make things look a lot worse than they are.

Can you feel the vertical "grooves" with your fingernail ???

What I would do first, as one is apparantly so much worse, is get very accurate bore diameter measurements of all four - ie, was that one bored/honed slightly undersize ???

It certainly looks like it could have done with a bit more clearance.
