In my days of hooliganistic mini road driving I used to left foot brake in the wet to bring the back round and stop the terminal understeer, with a bias valve in the rear brake line and no limiter valve this used to work quite well.

i dont see still the point in double de-clutching. if you thinkabout it your your heal toeing on the down shift your matching the revs when the car is in nutral thus not causing any more wear on the box. you only need it if your in a proper old car or a car with a feked box. as for left foot breaking... never good on country roads in near castle combe lol.

another thing foryou clubby is try and keep your self as smooth as posible if that makes sence, the way you turn the steering wheel can make alot of diffrence. and try not to break during a corner its never good.

really cool class one drivers doubledy clutch....people like me coz iam infact the ice man...or if ure shite blip change brings the revs up for the down change you get no jerking and the revs are up for lift off *wink* we were tought to be able to change gears up and down without using the clutch, you blip to get the revs at the right range for the gear change to move smoothly.

forms part of good system driving *happy*

in all seriousness iam the ice man though
roflmao...i kill me

Im sure some people are getting confused with dog engagement and synchro gear boxes, as there is no way that you would be able to match the transmission/ engine revs every gear change, more so in the heat of a race. On a synchro box there will be an inevitable crunch, however small - not good.

Dog engagement on the other hand is designed so that the clutch need not be used. The involute dog box has no posative location on the gear selection, it is the torque being driven through the box that holds it in gear. On an up change, you apply slight pressure to the gear lever, then lift of the gas, this will release the selected gear and alow you to select the next, usualy a short sharp movement of the lever. On a down shift, again applying slight pressure to the lever, blip the throttle to release the gear, again a short sharp movement of the lever to select the lower gear.

I have not heard of this with a syncro box and expect it to last. I cant see how its quicker than actualy using the clutch either, whether double declutch or just a plain declutch.

Like I said, im no expert. Crunch away at your synchros as you feel fit. :)

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Volvo's dont have dog boxes, at 120 mph on a technical "A" road, and the instructor didnt crunch or make the car jerk once (and he didnt use the clutch to prove a point) you couldnt even feel the gear changes. basically focusing your attention on the drive and not the surroundings, hard to do when the adrenaline is up on a race circuit though.

mind this guy is class 1 instructor who is also qualified to drive royalty. so i guess he has some mega skills

on the heel n toe subject does the blipping of the throttle to match the revs put a teeny bit sxtra wear on the thrust washers/brearing for the crank, as i understand they only do there work when the clutch is depressed or is the wear that minmal its not really worrying about it

SKYLINES ARE LIKE CLITS, EVERY FLANGE SEEMS TO HAVE ONE: see this sticker on my silvia

the Search-section on this forum is blummin superb & simple to use, unlike some other forums, without the search-section & the help of this bunch of chaps on here i'll never be able to !!!Start the day with a 998cc turbo!!! :) i'm getting closer though!

Agree with Paul on this one, never double de-clutched and heel and toeing is meant to make the box last longer. Surely the crunch isn't as bad as changing gear when the revs are wrong if that makes sense. I even heal and toe in my diesel, makes driving a lot smoother imo.

Lol, no, its a general term, that TFATF coined

Just because you heard it there first doesnt mean they thought of it. Have you seen a granny drive a car? have you seen how they pause in nutral with the clutch dipped?

*wink*
