Matt, I reccomend getting the 1380 Mini Builder DVD, walked me through the gearbox stripdown and rebuild really well and I had no idea before I started.

Gearboxes were always daunting to me but I thought fook it, other people can do it why cant I and its satisfying when you've finished it, look back and think what a fuss I made about nothing!!

So yeah the DVD and the red metro Haynes are all you need to strip/rebuild a box. May aswell spend extra and get all new bearings from DSN (or DSA?) classics which have the baulk rings in the kit.

Remember to keep the double roller bearing and spring clip, as people are having a job getting them now.

I found out the hard way about the balls and springs on the syncro... In fact collectively I probably spent more time looking for them than I did stripping and building the rest of the box!!

The advice I've had (from nic) is just use your metty haynes, the build guide in there is really clear.

Will be a piece of piss for you, if you can do a complete k turbo conversion, this will be a 10 minute job. *wink*

Ive used Gen ones however, get an emry wheel and run it up the inside until the baulk sits down nicely on its seat. If you dont youll find it hard to select gears.

I think Benross had a similair problem.

Its dead easy, ive even done it and im a right spaz!

I had new ones about 2 years ago (son's car) that were very "sharp" - they grabbed the cone on the gear as soon as I put them on to check the back clearance.

So I only put them on 2nd / 3rd and used good old ones on 1st / 4th.

What happened is because they were sticking to the cones, there was a bit of a snatch coming out of that gear - perfect going into gear but they hadn't let go of the cone once the gear was engaged so the next shift had to force them off.

The snatching only lasted about 200 miles and then they were fine.
