Matt, I reccomend getting the 1380 Mini Builder DVD, walked me through the gearbox stripdown and rebuild really well and I had no idea before I started.

The advice I've had (from nic) is just use your metty haynes, the build guide in there is really clear.

Ive used Gen ones however, get an emry wheel and run it up the inside until the baulk sits down nicely on its seat. If you dont youll find it hard to select gears.

ive seen a few people putting the gears on a bench grinder with a steel wire wheel until they seat correctly "Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"

I had new ones about 2 years ago (son's car) that were very "sharp" - they grabbed the cone on the gear as soon as I put them on to check the back clearance.

Never had a problem with virgin baulk rings
