Mike,

If you do go down this route, I've done a detailed comparison and, although the bolt holes are all fine (to maintain compatability with all blocks), the plate is a slightly different shape.

Old plate on top of new.

Which means the gasket cover is a bit weak in one area,

As Sprocket mentioned earlier, TurboDave (who is in the States) makes these plates in aluminium... and then ships them over here at reasonable cost so it would be worth a PM to him.

Covers also available new here and this one says USA postage at a very reasonable cost

It's the one without the breather but I assume your engine has the breather on the tappet chest cover making this the right one anyway.

I bought my last one from Minisport at £8.00 - on special offer. The one with the breather was about 5 times as much, but I have old type covers with breathers to cannibalise anyway.

Another thought - if you advertised in the "wanted" section here you might get secondhand bits at a reasonable price and, provided the seller is willing to go to the little bit of extra trouble at the Post Office, we can send "small packets" of up to 2kg to the USA by airmail, maximum cost £21.07 for 2kg and pro-rata less for lighter.
