More work done today. Gave the rear half of the interior another coat of paint, and treated some minor rust spots in the front half. Then I turned my attentions to the back - stripped the bootlid, bumper, lights and wiring out, it all looked a bit mucky in there but no nasty surprises:

After a clean up and first coat of paint it was looking much better:

Sadly I ran out of silver at that point, so I will have to get some more tomorrow. Decided to get some paint on my rear half cage. Started with a couple of coats of primer:

Then a quick dust coat of colour:

Then a full coat of colour:

Sadly, I then ran out of orange paint as well so called it a day. Making good progress now and should be able to start on painting the outside of the shell and then putting things together again soon!

Did a bit more on the roll cage this afternoon - couple more coats of orange and first coats of lacquer - starting to look the part now. Sadly, the photo's don't quite show just how bright this orange is, but you get an idea:

Quick sneeky peak of the shell after a couple of coats of paint:

This is the first car I've painted completely so it won't be perfect but its looking pretty good so far. I'm happy with it at least!

Well, the shell is all but done. Still need to do the doors, bootlid and bonnet etc... but its looking good so far. One things for certain, I doubt you'll see another one that looks the same!

I really like the satin finish - it might not be to everyones tastes but I reckon its gonna look good when its all finished.

I've missed out quite a lot here as I've been really busy, but done quite a bit more on this.

I've been in the garage for about 7 hours today and got quite a bit done.

Preparing dash:

Covering dash:

Fitting instruments:

Test fitting in car:

Centre console covered:

Fitted in car:

With glove box door covered:

Then I turned my attentions to the engine.

Manky A-Series:

Spanky A-Series:

Still got a few bits to finish off on the engine - brackets and such like, then make the bracket for the crank sensor and then it should be ready to drop back into the car.

All in all, a productive day!

Update time. Firstly, some pictures that I forgot to put up here - mostly speak for themselves:

Then today, I decided to turn my hand to fabricating. Now I've never had any welding training or experience, so the welds weren't too tidy, but the penetration was good and there are no holes (pretty important really!!!!). Once I'd finished it, I tidied the welds up a little and then gave it a coat of high temp aluminium paint:

Fitted to the inlet manifold and with the throttle body fitted:

And with a quick lick of paint:

Considering this is my first custom fabrication/welding attempt, I'm pretty happy with it. I've welded it inside and out at the flange ends - I just need to grind smooth the welds on the inside for good flow and its pretty much good to go.

looking very good chap , just a comment that may help , if your using a mg metro inlet manifold , and your sticking the fuel in where those bungs are , you may find that 1 and 2 run rich ,a more even entry to the manifold might help ?
ignore me if iv totally missunderstood the design lol.

Its actually acoustic carpet! Was a nightmare to get it stretched out with no creases or anything but it was well worth the effort.

No, you've understood perfectly Robert. I hear what you're saying - this is attempt number 1 so I'm gonna see how this goes and modify to suit. I may end up making the whole thing including the manifold from scratch later on, but for now I just want it running for the Mini 50.

Cheers for the comments guys - I'm really motoring now. I would love it to make the Showdown but I'm working lates for the next 2 weeks so progress will be slow so it'll be out for Mini 50 and MITP in that case.

Sweet dash, blue is nice, so is the satin.

One injector boss in each inlet manifold runner? Looks like the fuel may centrifuge to the far side of the pipe?

Love the upside down exhaust manifold and high turbo.
Keep it up!

Well, here she is in all her glory. Sadly not running properly yet - starts, idles (of a fashion), but can't get AFR's leaner than 11:1 at the moment which is a bit of an issue as it chokes constantly. Just a matter of some good mapping needed I think.

Its a shame its not running right for now, but it should just be a case of mapping it properly.

Well, after a couple of changes to the wiring, and playing about with figures, we spent a couple of hours on the road last night having a play and mapping.

Car is now driving under its own steam - part throttle drivability is pretty good, hesitates now and then but nothing major, acceleration seems fine at the moment unless you stab the throttle too hard (just a case of fine tuning accel enrichment it looks like), transition to boost is nice and smooth although I've limited it to 5PSi until I know everything is ok.

Very happy with the progress made last night. Just need to fine tune the tables, then sort out the accel and warm up enrichments.

Looks good, nnice to see something a little different.

Is that a stock T3?

It is indeed a stock T3 on a stock manifold, just flipped the other way. I wanted to get as much heat away from the inlet as possible, so this way the heat goes up away from the inlet, and also there's plenty of air flow through the bonnet so it gets cooled adequately. I must admit, the standard T3 looks rather large that way up!

I'm really chuffed to have been able to do this on my own - this is the first car I've run megasquirt on, its the first car I've ever mapped so I feel I'm doing well.

Now to get that boost turned up slowly and fine tune the map, and get an MOT. MITP here I come!
