Yeah its an Mi, joint owned between me and a mate as a track day toy.
At the moment it is pushing 170bhp on injection, 1600 GTi box with a Quaife diff in it to put the power down.
We have kept it looking standard as then its more fun to blow away unsuspecting rude boys in their trev'd up Corsas and Saxos.

I meant Tom's pug speedo only at 120 *wink*

it's hard work trying to get a good speedo pic in the mini at the ton I've tried a few times but I always back off while messing with my phone for the shot *blush*
not bad for a spi lump with the windows open and the roof open *laughing*

Yeah......that was just off the limiter right before I pulled fifth gear.....
*laughing*

Alex- Yeah its an absolute hoot mate, for me half of the fun with it is the fact it looks absolutely nothing special at all!

No, not quite, it has been off the clock......on a "private" motorway of course.......and not with me driving it either.......my mate that joint owns it has less regard for his license than me....

Excellent!! My Golf has 177bhp (well, it did at the last RR sesh, and it was 32.5 degrees outside!!) - even that surprises a few people. - yours must be well quick.

177bhp thats good going for a 16v Golf! Head and Cams? Carbs maybe? Is it a 1800 or 2L?
We had the 205 on the scales, with everything in it (e.g. rear seats spare wheel parcel shelf speakers stereo etc etc) if weighed in at 909kg. At a guess in track spec with all that cr@p removed it would be 850kg ish.
Next step is the flowed head and performance cams we have ready and waiting to go in.....

Excellent, that weighs nothing!!
Where can i weigh mine??

It's got a balanced 2 litre bottom end, cams, and a gasflowed head.. thats all... all done back in 1990, and its now done 160k! its being split apart for the first time since then in a few weeks to replace the cam followers. :/

any chance in a ride in yours?
what sort of torque is it putting out?

The lad who joint-owns the 205 works at a place that builds Lotus race cars so we took the 205 down one saturday morning and used the 4 wheel scales to find out. I would be interested to weigh it with all the stuff out of it really to find out what it is in track-mode.

That is damn good going on the Golf Engine. If I were you I would replace the chain that drives the 2nd cam as well while you have the cams out. Its not hard to do and worth it while you have the cam belt off. Not certain actually if the 2L engines have that? I know the 1800s definately do. Also be careful when 'knocking' the new followers in. I used to run a guy with a Seat Ibiza ex-factory Group A rally car and we had problems with it eating new followers as they had not been properly knocked in for 1/2 hr at 3000 revs. It used the same engine (2L 16v) as yours will.
Yeah course you can have a ride sometime. Whereabouts are you in the country mate? Wait till the head and cams are on then we'll sort it out!

PS As for torque don't know off the top of my head will have a look at the RR printout if I get chance this weekend.

I'm actually paying someone to do it! i dont have all the right tools and he can get the parts cheaper than me anywho. He's doing the cam timing chain, and the cam belt at the same time. (it was only done 20k ago, but i worry about them snapping!!)

I'm in peterborough, but usually go to the cheapo donnington trackdays with a few mates, so might see you at one of those? I might actually run my car at one soon! *wink*

Mine only has 140lbft, cams dont help it either!! I've got the printouts if you'd like to see. it pulls right upto the rev limit!!

Yeah the plan is to get the 205 out on a few track days, it could just do with a bit more brakes, at the moment it has a bias pedal box so you always get a good hard pedal, but even with the 1900 discs set up all round its getting a bit marginal
