you get away with it because they are some decent looking wheels, not the average shite that you see on most chav cars.

I like it anyway.:)

...yeah theyre nice wheels but it does look like a rollerskate!! :) im trying to find some bigger wheels than the standard 13's it came with, some that look factory fitted. been looking at modern clios and stuff but not seen any that impressive yet.

Just got back from picking up some 15 inch Clio turbine wheels for mine. Coin for the factory look!

I prefered the original wheels. I think small wide wheels would suite the car better. It's your car though so fuck what I think

I really miss mine, but needed work for the mot and I was on a cost saving mission. The phase one clio turbines look the muts, so do the williams clio rims but not in gold. Think I may have a white dial set of clock if you want them?
Cheers

I was pretty keen on keeping mine to parts found in the Renault parts bin, some owners stray into volvo teritory for the 480 turbo efi engine, seen a few blown 1.8 16v clio motors dropped in, Ktec do the conversion kits but at a premium.

yes, you just bought a Rocket!
definitely, boost it up! it's just a liitle guy in std form.
be carefull with fuel pump, with years it will not deliver enough fuel, giving lean conditions when upgrading boost.
a good idea is to look at x flow cylinder heads ...and around 2.2 bars
250 hp finger in the nose!

The problem with these was the original wheel/ tyre size was very limiting.

That’s why most people reverted to 15 x7. Because of the wider choice of tyres available and also brake packages. Increase to 288mm disc.

Which did not have a drastic affect on the overall gearing / handing / ride height.

White is one of my fave colours for these, there is a retired teacher locally to me who has a tungsten grey 5, he is the 1st owner, and its totally std and unmolestered, last time i had a look round it he was still running mitchelin mxvs which are now extreemly hard to get hold of, most of these you see on std rims run uniroyal ditch finders.

Herefordshire

Why do 5's make so much more power than minis?

The engines seem quite similar

1.4 or 1.6 engine in the R5 I think, can't remember which.

77mm bore, large valves, 5 mains, 8ports.
good clutch package,
strong gearbox
the engine block is basically the same as the r5 turbo II "tour de corse"

Ive been looking at the prices on these and they seem to vary ALOT! Ive seen some damn good spec'd ones going for like £900 on the bay yet others going for nearly twice that?

What did you pay for yours James?

It varies a hell of a lot, some owners are realistic with theire value others price what it has cost them and use it as a benchmark. I only paid £400 for mine, and managed to sell for a little more 12months later, didnt owe me a penny, only time it broke down was due to a fobar alternator.

Like shane says alot of the owners over value there cars although mint standard ones were fetching £3000 before the credit crunch!!!
They have a bad image due to the chavs that used to own them, I think thats slowly going due to enthusiast owning them.
Check out the video below the quickest 5 in the country running a turbo powered clio 172 engine.

So would you say anything over £1000 would be paying too much? All the ones ive seen that look in mint condition are about £1500-£1800?
