Colin it dead right here these are not raised crown piston quite the contrary what has been done is the piston dish has been made to match the shape of combustion chamber and the reason is as the Viking says to improve squish,

thanks for the comments:) And, yes, the kidneys are indeed lowered; interesting way to lower CR, which is basically why I posted them in the first place. It's very quick in any case. I've only driven it for 1 mile (from the container to storage) but I had a blast, going sideways most of the time. If all goes as planned to be seen somewhere on a French racing circuit soon. Problem is that seller forgot the exact spec, but from the way it revs it's anything but standard. Here's some more of the car as a whole. There's a remote oil filter/ry sump type system fitted as well. 1963 Cooper

It's not a way to reduce CR, it's a way to gain valve clearance. Instead of a milled slot, this is the proper, albeit difficult way to do it. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:

Thanks for the feedback; I wish I could take credit for the work, but it was done by a friend of a friend (literally), who then had something go wrong with his brain and bought a Lotus Super 7 clone instead. I actually bought it with the intention of recouping some of the cost of having a 40ft container shipped (I failed miserably in that attempt btw, thanks a lot credit crunch On 20th Mar, 2009 G13B said:

you can still have this one; the potential French buyer thought a leaking master clutch cylinder was enough reason to go back to Paris with an empty trailer... the rumor is true; they are quite mad (apart from list member Thierry of course On 21st Mar, 2009 Nic said:

I dont think the crown is raised enough around the valve cutouts to cause any kind of burn obstruction? |

hario, the crown of the piston is machined down (lowered) to match the kidney shape of the chamber, unless ive read your post incorrectly, then im sorry.

; racing it myself only crossed my mind when I saw it in the flesh (and even then; the cost, even with this for a starting point). I'm sad to see it go, but glad that someone will now campaign it, albeit in France
