Ah but if you have the crank reground to S big end sizes you can reduce the stroke :)

Very true PaulH but the problem is with the standard stroke and 1275 pistons the block needs to be decked by about 7 mm.
I would increase the stroke to 73mm and use 73mm pistons.........Nice and square !

Thinking outside your box, how about custom con rods, no need to deck and increase you rod to stroke ratio, and make it even better for reving

Just to clear something in my mind, would you be able to lower the deck height sufficiantly by just skimming, or would there be issues with deck thickness, especially if holes have been relocated for a k1100 head?

I don't know how thick the block on an a-plus engine is, but on sprockets sectioned `1275 block thread it looks like a fair chunk could come off it.

Sorry thread hi-jack

I know with Cooper S blocks that enough meat can be skimmed off. The 1071S and 1275S used the same casting and conrods so the difference was made by decking the block. However, the 970S engines used the same block casting except it had longer rods appearantly to compensate for the difference in strokes. I don't know about non-S blocks though so this post is useless *happy*

the A block can be skimmed enough, I have done so in the past successfully. Although I would not recomend this if you are going to use a BMW K head, as it leaves little material left for the studs...

I agree with miniminor63. The blocks cut be skimmed enough but some times the stud hole have to be tapped alittle deeper after the decking. Im not sure about the BMW K conversion though, I suppose ill find out when I do mine......

I got one of these :)

I used a 1300GT block with 225 thou taken off the top. You can judge for yourself if the deck heights to low for the k head..

What you boys really need if your going to the effort of a 'k' head is some of john k's rods, some forged pistons and a bit of crank work, just to help it spin up.

Mines on a 5 port with a bp 300 cam (1.3 roller rockers), split webers and a 73.5mm bore (1188cc) and its making 90 bananas at the wheels.

I previously had a 1071 that was making little over 70 at the wheels with a SW10. The difference the internals have made on the 1188 means that even with the 300deg cam, it spins up quicker than the old 1071.

I'd be interested to see a k head on one of these motors, what revs it pulls and the power it makes. You could also probly use much wilder cam profiles, with a normal 1071 anything above 300 and your not really gaining much.

I would be interested in a set with non S sized ends, to go with my short pistons. might need a bit of time to find the money though.
