Mark??? Have you got loads of CWPs??

At a guess I'll think that the pinions wear between 2,76 and 4,3ish times as fast as the crown wheel :)

We all make 'em sometimes. Stupid comments that is. What a prat!

I was thinking, looking at a set I had, one of the mainshaft bearings was really shagged and the resulting movement had caused the whole assembly to move and caused massive wear on the pinion teeth. The crownwheel was A1, even on really close inspection. Hence stupid comment.

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

Turboing minis since '89
Supercharging minis since '04

2.7 should be perfect with the supercharger and its no lag low down torque delivery,
it makes 1st gear a useable one rather than just a wheelspin demonstrator ,
they are easy to get hold of as lots of low power mpi owners change them , expect to pay around 75- 100 quid though
take it from some one who has tried an m45 setup with a 2.7

As far as I know 3,46 is the tallest available.
You can get 1:0,93 drop gears from Minispares Jim. Will improve matters slightly.

I guess the OD of the diff flange could be turned down and the bolts re-drilled to allow a 3.2 or 3.1 , but not much more...

I'd have thought it'd be easier to get a gear cutter to make you a new idler gear(s) and do it properly. I can't understand why overdrive drops aren't available - they'd reduce the torque in the gearbox (by the ratio), making things much better all round for us guys...

Would I be right in thinking that having overdrive drops would load the idler bearings more?

If I remember rightly, there is an LSD which fits a normal crownwheel. Might be a cam and pawl one though. I have resigned myself to not running one.

Bugger off, I'm getting there.
