Being less aflluent than Jim I used an old Rover K series cam sensor and some M5 hex heads sunk into the rim of a minifin. The more "signals" you get the less coarse the output - I went for 8 bolts. Bracket comes off the shock mount and backplate mount

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

Jim There are two laser cut "trigger" wheels on the pot joints, just behind the groove where the boot is - I turned the pot joint so it was true, squeezed them on then a couple of tigs to attach. Then I went upmarket and used vectra cam sensors on brackets attached to the drive flange covers. These trigger wheels have lots of teeth to keep the data accurate for motor control.
