I posted ages ago about the quality of rubber these days being shite

Its not just tyres or fuel lines, its everything

I fitted a new set of uprated rubber tie bar bushes when I assembled the front suspension, they just sat there car on axle stands, outside on the drive, never went anywhere, or exposed to dirt, salt or anything else from the road, and, yes, thats right, withing 3 weeks, they had started to crack. Same thing has happened to the rubber boots for the hardy spicer joints, yet the Interparts CV boots are still good

Perhaps there is no ozone left and the government are trying to take our minds away from that by going on about CO2 emissions instead, or perhaps its the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere thats causing it. Which brings me to a point. If the CO2 levels in the atmosphere have increased, does that mean that the O2 levels have dropped? after all, we humans need 20.9% O2 to be able to breath and petrol engine stoich ratio has changed? *hehe!*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Now thats just not true. I he is inflating his wheels to pressure as stated above when he re-checks them after a few hard laps the pressures will be way high. The best way I find is to under inflate do a few laps and re-check as fast as is humanly possible. It takes a a fair while for the pressure to drop after a session.

On a more serious note....

Has anyone noticed how modern tyres tend to crack a lot ?

Ive seen loads recently, from cheap brands, to the likes of Bridgestone that have cracks between the tread, on the edges of the tread, and even the sidewalls.

As if they had been lying about for years....but havent

Was told an interesting bit of info about tyre consruction. Some low profile tyres have an over load rating which is marked on the side wall, depending on the over rating depends on the weight of car you can safely fit a particular tyre to incorrect fitting to a car that is to heavy for the tyre can cause the side wall's to fail!

Never knew that!
