basically u get to just on boost, it picks up and then if u were to floor it say and as the boost increases you get like a constant noise like a dumpvalve "tssssh" but constantly, getting louder the more u put ur foot down, it then disappears the minute u come off boost

no, run your bleed valve like that. i take it that it is an in car one, with two outlets? put the T in there, like you have done. boost guage has to be down wind of the carb. close to the head.

yep ok, will run the bleed valve as it is.where on earth do i plumb the boost gauge then. using this pic...

plumb to, the big nut 1 o clock to your filler cap in that photo. that is where you would also run your servo vacume feed from, if you had a remote servo. most dont bother these days.

ok, got you. Well I now know exactly how to plumb it. and il have a look at the valve and and remove and seal it off and get a good seal around my turbo housing and see if that cures my air leak.many thanks for all of your help.

cool, its just the throttle disk i was thinking about. turbo carbs have another poppet valve in the disk, as they had no dump valve.
As you have one, dv, this valve can get in the way. a disk from an N/A carb 44 would be the best replacement.

Where are you situated? There may well be someone local to you who can look over your car and be able to sort this out a lot easier than trying to do it over the net.

You may be suprised. Also add your location to your profile, as you might find people near you.

You have the boost gauge tee'd into the the hose from the fuel pressure regulator (which goes to the carb) this is fine, just put the gauge inside the car and run the pipe to the t-piece.

1st post third picture.

Starting at the brass fitting on the compressor housing.

1. The pipe exiting off to the left loops round under the actuator and plumbs into the actuator.

2. The pipe exiting to the right plumbs into a solenoid valve which I believe is obscured by your braided hosing (if you are not using the solenoid valve run this line directly to your bleed valve).

3. Bleed valve
Fit the T for the bleed into the pipe described in 2 above.

Plumb your boost gauge into the back of the plenum chamber T the connection into the line that links the plenum to the fuel pressure regulator.

Own the day

balls - iv jus spent the last hour or so drilling and tapping the big nut on the manifold, but i could have just taken it off the plenum - fuel pressure regulator you say?

By plumbing in your boost gauge into your plenum, you will be reading your boost pre restricter and won't be getting a true reading of the boost your engine actually sees. Plus you won't get any vac readings on part throttle/lift off. Just use the servo take off as your going to do.

ok so iv now got the boost gauge off the inlet manifold - works fine

iv plumbed the dumpvalve as said, with its own seperate vacuum

Removed and blanked off the poppet valve inside the plenum.

Just taken it up the road and as it comes on boost i get a really high pitched sound that gets louder the more i put my foot down (sounds a bit like a supercharger but louder!) and then when i change gear get no dumpvalve noise whatsoever. The whine doesnt sound very good either - so i only did it once or twice to make sure. Any ideas on this new problem?? Im around all day so can try any ideas!!!many thanks again

Sounds like a boost leak. How did you block the poppet valve in the plenum?

i just put in "high pitched turbo whine" into google and it keeps coming up with dry bearing, knackered turbo etc? could this be possible? is the turbo starved of oil??

could it be the poppet valve in the carb? and if so where is this located and what does it look like?
