My engine sits further back than most, allowing room for the alternator, the inlet manifold has been shortened.

hi ben very nice car. do you mind me asking how you got the engine so far back at the gearbox end. ive got the the same conversion but my engine seems much further forward than yours becaus my gearbox casing would catch the steering rack.

if you have some pics it would be helpful?

thanks

p.s sorry for the thread hi-jack

edit= just noticed yours is a non turbo perhaps they have smaller gearbox?

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

The engine is rolled back towards the fire wall and doesn't sit straight up and down. The diff sits about 30mm from the steering rack were most conversions sit.
And it is a turbo engine uses a front mount cooler and radiator.

Im getting a subframe made, an identical one to the one i posted before. Guess that means ive got to run the alternator under the wing. Or get a really small alternator.

I have made a couple of other frames and both sit the engine a little further forward to use the standard manifold and require the alternator to sit under the guard or use a small alternator and cut the guard to make fit.

How did you go getting your subframes engineered? Thats the main reason im getting one made. To cut a load of hassle out of the process. As i cant weld and dont have the confidence to hack my only subframe to pieces.

Spoke to an engineer about what I wanted to do, once it was finished he inspected and approved it was not real difficult as long as it is made properly.
A lot of the starlet frames I have seen I do not like they do not have enough support for the engine which just hangs off the suspension towers and they find when they start using them that they need to add support under the engine to tie in the front suspension mounting points. Otherwise the frame cracks and the car is unpredictable to drive under acceleration darts left to right.

Awesome job on the Clubmans!

Has anyone done this to a round-nose Mini? I've just officially got the bug and made the decision to get into Mini's by buying a '64. That said, I've also made the decision to dump a 4EFTE into it because it'll make a comfy 150kw and run on "normal" fuel. Any hints and / or tips from anyone who's done this before?

Cheers

Its a tight squeeze in a round nose heres a link for a few pics

I had a chat with Archangel007 on ausmini and he said go the clubman, space is a massive issue on a roundy. And im pretty sure he built that frame.

Just a quick update, I started stripping the starlet i have, i got the dashboard off and the loom out. And dropped my subframe off to be modified and picked up a 6 speed manual. Looking forward to getting it on the road and the track.

Ive made another step in the project. Finally removed the engine from the donor car. Sometimes it made me regret getting a whole car, everything is so much bigger and theres a lot more to faff about with. But its out now so thats all that matters.
Pics are below.
The engine while leaving its former home

The ridiculously big engine bay compared to where its going

Next step is to bolt my gearbox on and flog off the auto then organise packaging and whats going where in the engine bay.
Ill be doing the wiring soon, so expect lots of questions and tantrums.
Cheers,
Joe

This is kind of a thread revival, been waiting on a subframe for a few months and ive got it at last and sidetracked by doing stuff to my daily mini.
The subframe is well worth the wait as i dont have the skills or the tools to modify it myself.
Heres a few pics of it.
