Just to add, the "funny slot" is in tech language called the "tit". Ref: Rich at MSCN

Got it sorted, replaced the UNIPART brake shoes with some Lockheed ones and it all fits together sweet. Can only assume that there is some minor manufacturing fault with the UNIPART shoes. Picture shows the CORRECT orientation of brake shoes for the N/S.

Have you also over-looked the obvious? Have you measured the ID of your Minifins? should be 7" (maybe a lttle more if worn or machined). Also measure over your shoes as assembled that they are just under 7" |

There is clearly a difference in shoes as the lockheed ones fit where as the Unipart ones dont. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Old thread i know but is the above pic definately correct? If so the minispares pic is correct also (apart from you have to turn the pic round 180 degrees) ? |

I had to grind 3mm off the end of a set of my brake shoes as they were longer than the set that came off. They were also unipart ones.

To answer that particular question, I still believe the answer is yes. The leading edges of the shoes should both be against forward braking and the small rectangular slot is for the plain ended bit of the linkage and the "C" shaped slot (the "tit" as Vegard put it) is for the pivoted end of the linkage. It allows the pivoted end to "twist" inside the "C" shape as the pivot pin wears. It also make sure the return springs have one round hole to use first, then a slotted one to use second. Also important - not shown in the photos above - is making sure the linkages are on the correct side of the car if they have been removed or renewed - they are handed so to make sure the long part runs parallel with the return spring, as shown in the MiniSpares photo even though it is upside down.... Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

Actually ignore me i see what you mean now, they are identical but the pivot would be the other side :) |

The MiniSpares picture does indeed show everything assembled correctly.
