True but some credit has to be given on some things. I would expect there to be other issues like pinking or smoky exhaust.

think its very strange no one has mentioned setup. If the iginition is wrong, or the fueling is out, it might run hot, also at idle. Get the car set up properly if you have not already..

I have smoke lol, but ive been putting this down to the whole turbo seal/return hose being kinked malarky!

Im still dubious about my choke seals and whatever. I might try someone elses carb on to see what happens.

Mine starts to get hot too, but the past few engines in the car have done the same so I think it's the gauge. I got one of those infared thermometors off ebay, they are handy for stuff like this plus you can use it for charge temps etc to an extent.

I found with my front rad that temps rose when at a stand still with the fan on also and one reason I changed back to the side mount.

I also suffer air locks when the system has been drained. I get round this by leaving the rad cap off and running the engine up to temp. It either gushes out the filler neck and then subsides where i then top it up, or it empties the rad, where i just fill it up. Usualy ok after that. If i didnt do this, the engine was fine when driving but would then quicky 'overheat' at stand still.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

do the fans come on?

where is the sender for them?

do you have an overide switch?

the reason oi ask is i have a fan sender that cuts in at 93 deg C in the bottom of my ally rad, it seems as thogh the rad is so effecient that th engine has to get really hot before the water in the bottom of the rad is hot enogh to switch the switch.

when i get a chance i'm going to put a sensor in the top of the rad instead.

Theyre on the on a manual switch, ive had the car out tonight amd it didnt seem to get as hot as normal, this was after messing with the mixture. The smoke appears slightly on tickover, but its quite bad on over run?

i'd personally plumb the heater tap back into the top rad hose, and run a 74 degree stat.

mine used to creep up when at a standstill but switching the electric fan on would bring it back down and sit at halfway on the gauge.

as sprocket says check it for air locks, me and kean both have to bleed ours from the heater tap when first filled to get rid of them.

Are you running the HIF44 carb?
Is the part throttle lean of pipe still connected?

Do you know the under bonnet method for setting the mixture screw? If you can remember the older style carbs that had the lifting rod under the dash pot which you used to lift the dash pot at idle, you do much the same thing, but by quickly flicking the butterfly from closed to fully open back to closed and listen for the engine pitch change.

I am of the opinion that in order to use this method on a turbo carb you will need to block of the part throttle lean of pipe then reconnect it after you have completed the adjustment.

RIght, so blocking it off, leaning the car out then reattaching.
