If the MOT man has a good look, then it will fail with out a seem weld.

Ive seen lots of arches done that way and its just horrible.
I turn a new flange on the 1/4 panel so its as original.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

I have always intended to do the same, when I get round to it, lol, was suposed to be doing it last week end, but the missis had other plans.

I refolded the lip on the front wings when I cut a good 2" out of it for the sports pack arches. The arches now sit on the lip where they fix. Ideal for slamming the car *happy*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

As well as the outer edge,i was surprised when the inner edge was joggled as opposed to butt jointed and they said if you dont have an edge joggler, just overlap slightly. *surprised*

I suppose if it was seam welded properly then it would be strong enough but i would have used a butt joint on it as overlapped joins are the devil *evil*

I must admit Ive done it with a joggled joint as it adds a little strength.
If you think about it, the shape of the rear inner arch (as standard) gives it strength. when you make the top of it flat its weaker as it has no shape.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

I was meaning more the just overlap it part as opposed to the joggled edge.

In terms of the strength issue i see what you mean, the downturned section before the lip is stronger then a flat section.

My only concern with overlapped joints is water and crap getting in. If your join is not 100% sealed then it will inevitably end up rusty. Wheel arches would be particularly prone to this

Very true, if you put the joggle to the inside of the car, seam weld under the arch, clean it up, prime and seam seal it should last years, after all the spotweld flage is a lap joint too.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!
