I knew I was chancing my arm on some of it, but I think my mate was having a bad day.

Basically sills, rear panel/boot floor and rear inner arches need to be replaced. Plus a load of odds and sods.

The "troops" have already started work.

I'd just patch it up to get it on the road, then revisit when you have less of a dead line to meet.

I'm catching a ferry tomorrow and will be away three weeks, so it's just not going to be possible to get any of the welding done until I get back.

Evo was hoping for some transport whilst we are away. Trouble with rural living, no bus services and a girlfriend 10 miles away.

The lads are going to get the Mig off the ramp, so that they can get this in and start cutting off the crap.

Since Axel destroyed the 30, I'm just about had enough, but I'll help them get their cars on the road.

Get away for a rest Paul. I'm sure you will come back with a renewed energy and we'll be seeing a quick migla next year *smiley*

Well, we've just shifted all the cars around and it's on the ramp ready for the lads to cut out the rot.

They are going to replace the rear subbie whilst it's in bits.

What is odd is how it has deteriorated in the barn over the last winter. There are actually holes in the sills and rear arches that weren't there last summer!

Right, well over the weekend we stripped the rear end down and got the interior out.

It was then that we managed to get a full extend of the rust (most likely more to come once we've finished wire brushing :()

O/S/R bin and healboard

O/S Outer sill (can see hole in inner sill aswell)

O/S/R Wheel arch

N/S/R bin and healboard

N/S/R Wheel arch

N/S sill

O/S inner sill

All this happened whilst in a barn which is relatively dry *oh well*

Battery box and N/S rear closing panel also need work.

Regarding rear arches, going to tub them as; a) it's cheaper than the repair panels, b) it used to rub like a bitch

I can understand getting plenty of rust in a brick/concrete garage, but in a barn with plenty of ventilation its unusual.
Chin up lads, you'll soon get it sorted! *wink*

Winter is the killer and we had a bad one. Any moisture will freeze and expand, blowing the metal/rust apart. My old clubman did the same thing.

EDIT: Why do you have Ben and Will's surname on your lift?

I checked out the sills about 18 months ago and though they would be OK for a few years. Obviously not. Missed the problems with the wheel arches altogether. Good excuse to tub them.

I'll have to teach the lads to weld, I think.

Well we popped over to min-its this morning and got some recon radius arms for the bargain price of £30 each, also whilst we were there spotted a genuine rear subbie for £30 cheaper than everywhere else aswell so snapped that up aswell to also save on postage.

Had a good nosey at the mig to figure out tubbing the arches, looks like the brake pipe bracket also needs to come off the radius arms and different pipes are used.

If you are not intending on slamming it, then the brake pipes can stay as they are *wink*

I hope you get those sills off before I get home.

The easiest way I've found is to cut carefully under the lip then fold them down then hack them off and tidy up with a grinding disk/flap wheel

If this rear subbie shows any signs of rust in the next few years I won't be happy, just finished 2nd coat of anti rust primer, ready to be coated in hammerite tomorrow.

Insurance company threw a spanner in the works yesterday, it's got to have a cat 1 alarm fitted :( that means I've got to remove the existing alarm and immobiliser that's already on there and then pay for someone to come out and fit a new one as the insurance is void until then :(

Keep up the good work.

I've noticed that aswell that insurance companies are pushing the cat 1 alarms now.
