when we fit reconded engines off toyota they come with the engine number machined off and we stmp them with the old engine number.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

i was thinking about this,

say you buy a short motor from MED, Avonbar ect, will they be obliged to provide proof of where the block has come from?

Or what constitutes and engine, is it just the block (where the label or stamping is) or everything ???

The reallity is that this has all come about because of the road tax banding and DVLA have come up with a "one size fits all" answer......

I don't think they care where the engine has come from, just what its size is, but their solution to the problem doesn't work for people like us.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Totally agree with that - one size fits all.

The DVLA are just trying to make it difficult to modify cars. From 2012, it will be illegal to modify any car registered from that point onwards.

I think modifications on cars registered from that point onwards will require the parts to be tested thoroughly to set regulations dependant on what the part is.But yes it does seem to be heading towards a massive cut down on what you can do,especially what you can do yourself.

The DVLA have actually said that it will be illegal to modify vehicles registered from 2012 onwards. I'm guessing only factory 'options' will be allowed.

Load of old Bollox.

When the masses fit cheap dung tyres to their car they are modifying it. WIll they stop them ? Dont think so.

As its unlikely I'd be buying a new car anyway...the 2012 thing wont affect me for a very long time. And even then, I'll do whatever the fuck I like to my car.

TBH, nothing gives them the right to dictate what we can do with our cars. We pay enough to them simply for owning the damn things !!!

Half of these decision makers need driven over by a Mini converted to a 20 ton steam roller on nitro *happy*

Had a similar discussion with some mates last night and one mentioned the above. The problem is, the DVLA can claim that they are doing it for the safety of other road users, as there is no guarantee that the modifications have been done to an acceptable standard. However, this can also be said about the work of many garages and mechanics so I don't know how they will be able to police it.

So instead of banning mod's, what they should be doing is setting up a competant government agency to inspect and certify modifications *hehe!*

Just an update......

My V5 is a total mess - the new one I got back still has some errors and I need it right for the MOT as the car isn't on the electronic MOT database yet - so I had a thorough read of the printed guidance note booklet that came with the new V5......

On the printed version, page 10 its states "If you increase the engine size documentary evidence is not required....."

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

You think thats bad. here You want to go to Germany and see what their Police think about parts fitted without a CE TUV stamp.... and thats been in place a while. On top of that they have city emmission zones where you cant take old cars.

We didn't actually take it into the LEV zone though. We were just outside.

how are they gonna stop every one from 'modding' their cars?
the simple answer is they cant, its just impossible,
we're just being forced into a policed state of society for our(there saftey)
its what happens in a monetry society,
we'l all become slaves oneday....

Peeps read between the lines. The ideots in white hall are doing there outright best to to make all laws and regulations in England comparable to those in main Euopean states. Quite soon you will only be able to fit manufacturer approved wheels to your car!

I dont get how this will affect people boring out there engines and that because the block is still a 1275 block, so shurly as long as you update the insurance you are not braking any rules?

So basicly find a nice local garage and get them to say they did everything so you can make the DVLA happy and you can mod away silly still.

As for the 2012 id like to see them try and stop it haha people will just buy old cars (well whatevers left with this shitty scrappage scheme) and mod them
