To old skool BMC green and black...

The green rocker cover didant work for me.

And thats the engine re built the Knocking turned out to be a warn cam and cam fowlers . And the rocker cover needed to be ground out a bit more because of the size differance of the 1.3 roller rockers.

As soon as the engine was reboilt I started cleaning the engine bay up
took it back to meatle fitted a turbo box and a webber box. then red leded everything then gravy tex and then a fresh coat of paint.
From this...........

Then came the rain so we made a tent...

One thing I noticed when I was looking at other pepols threds on fitting turbo boxes they all seem to cut this pice too small and have to weld an extra pice in so I cut mine longer. I think it made for a better finish.. what do you think.

I tryed for about a month to get the supercharge working, my problem was the engine would only start when the pipe was off or the blow off valve was open . The blow of valve at the side of the carb workes on vacum the only problem was there isant enough vacume on turnover so I changed the strenth of the spring in the actuator still no joy. So after 16 months of trying to get it to work I decidet to go TURBO as I had a new one in the garage so here gos with the turbo pics.

I also fitted a new Avonbar ajustable atchuator 4 to 20 psi (anyone now how they work)

He said it all looked good and recomended me to get it set up on the rolling road so Ill be going to mini sport in the next couple of weeks.

Mate.

Crackin job but I can't believe after all that hard work you leapt from supercharger to turbo !

I really liked the look of the sc setup you had - saw about 4 cars like this at the IMM and they really stand out. Plus yours was blow through.

Do you think you'll go back to sc ?

PS - I believe the 'adjustable' Avonbar actuators are adjustable by virtue that you can get access to the spring and replace it with another lower or higher poundage jobbie rather than just turning a screw. You have access to get to the spring on the Avonbar unit whereas you don't on a standard unit as they're sealed. Your Avonbar actuator will still have a 'set' pressure depending on what spring is in it so it depends on what spring you bought it with.

I had very similar problems setting my fuelling up but I persevered and the results astonished me. Looking forward to the TM RR day on 17 Oct.

Good job.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

I have one of those flip front kits as well, can't wait to get it on, but need to sort out the rest of the body work and rear subframe before I look at the front :(

Audi 80/a4 boot hinges are better. They flip the bonnett much further back. Have a look at Rod S's build thread theres a link in there to a car with them fitted.

Darren.

As Phil said, did you get that Wideband fitted ?

It's a must for normal driving mate, not essential for the RR as they'll have their own.

I'd also recommend a fuel pressure gauge for the dyno, fitted on the fuel outlet from the FPR to the carb. Avonbar sell em for about 20 quid. On the dyno day, you'll be able to set the fuel pressure spot on, and make sure it rises 4 psi ahead of boost pressure.

I must admit, I did suffer my fair share of lean off issues on the van in the early days but that's a thing of the past now. It has been my own preference not to use the Tee piece trick but to keep the part throttle lean off pipe fitted and make sure my plenum to carb gasket had the fuel chamber hole drilled through. This has worked for me but I did experiment with the Tee piece trick, it wasn't for me though as I couldn't get the AFR lean enough and it would always run too rich through the range.

Good luck with your RR day mate.

Richard.

Thanks Richard, The Tee pice was down to Turbo Phil a quick fix as it were Ide been trying to get it to start with no joy for what seemed like forever, when Phil called in on a day out to sunny Blackpool He had it running in less than 10 mins . So now Ive sorted the plenum gasket so ill try running with out it. Ive just welded the lamber sencer in and hope to wire the the Wideband gauge up today if the wife hasnt got any plans for me today if not Sunday.

Well time for an update, got everything sorted wideband fitted running really well.So I poped it on the trailor and took it to min sport to have it set up.
In Robs words " really nice set up running at 8psi dont change anything I think it will be running around 120 bhp, bring it back after 500 miles and well have a power run and see what it can do.
when I got home took it round the block to see how it was running and f**k me the engine steady came lose and I cracked the bottom of the carb on the bulkhead. (ran really well)

Got it booked in for an MOT, FAILD on a small hole and bad earth on the rear lights.

So I told the very nice MOT man Ill be back for my ticket before he closed, No sutch luck on my way to do the welding it stalled at the trafic lights then after about 1/4 of a mile it locked up on me solid.
So I had to phone the MOT man and tell
him I wouldnt be back LOL.

Took the head off and two of the pistons at the top have about 3mm diferance, so after £5k and hundreds of hours im back were I started a standerd metro 1275 with twin 1 1/2 carbs. Im going to run it for a bit and rebuild it again. Is this dedication or insanity. Darren
