They where cutting edge in there day. Very important to BL. *oh well*

I agree about the looks, but our metro van is a good laugh and relativly practical.

I remember lusting after various "hot" hatches when I was a teenager metty turbo was up there with them- its all nostalgia now. Antman and myself watched a bunch of mid 30's guys going crazy over a R5 Gordini at a local classic car auction - one of them splurged £1900 or so on it - it was a clean example. So I think anyone in their 30's has more of an affinity with these sort of cars (along with brown Nova 1.3 sr's. fest supersports etc) then the older generation - sorry Paul.lol!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

That explains why most of my favourite cars are from the 50s *happy*

I will admit that I'm not a fan of the styling of the MK1 Mettys but my MK2 Turbo was a fantastic car, really regret selling it.

someone on here described a metro as all the bad bits of the mini, and none of the good bits

i used to agree, but think they are pretty ace now they are alot rarer, i think there is maybe 2 metro's on the roads over here now, neither turbo though...

Yeah i'm gonna keep it as a left hooker. Its a lot rarer like that and it can't be that bad to get used to.

Don't wanna fiddle with it too much to start with just tidying and make sure its waxoiled to death underneath.

Yeah i love old cars. Its actually same age as one of the cars i look after at work, so now trying to track down some 1983 williams stickers as they were sponsored by austin rover group. And JohnK would murder me if i did anything drastic to it, as would some members on here. Hence the twinky going!

If you want to talk metro, but not get too technical try www.metroownersclub.org.

They are garunteed to like your car.

Also if anbybody else really wants a MK1 Metro Turbo, there's one parked up in Leeds. Lost it's engine to a mini, but the rest of it is fairly solid. Current owner wants £200 for it.
