i thought abut getting a 5speed box as it would be quite cool as you have an extra gear but the box's seem to be alot weaker than the 4speed, so if you have any decent power i would not bother, a minispares sc cr gearset 3.1fd and 10" wheels @ 7000rpm if im correct its 128mph just change your fd

From what I remember of the 5 speed boxes is that 5th is 1:1, just like 4th in a 4 speed box. The ratios in the box makes for a close ratio box, not an overdrive box.

As already mentioned if you want to cruise at high speed change your dif.

well at the moment i have a straight cut box, drop gears and a metty turbo 3.2 final drive. i dont actually know what ratio the drops or the box is i should have probably worked it out before i put it together. if i was to change the ratio of the drops would that make much of a difference?

Do it right the first time and make it mint!!!!!!

The only true 1:1 5 speed is the KAD, all others are overdrive.

Im not sure where the 1:1 ratio sits in the 6 speed box.

One thing I am alwasy surprised at are those who look into 5 speed boxes to make motorway crusing more comfortable, IE drop the engine revs which reduces the noise. Fair enough, but no one makes a 1:1 top five or six speed in helical cut gears, so what is the point of looking at those or even throwing it in as a suggestion. On a turbo motor I wouldnt expect the overdrive 5 speeds to last long, well not long enough to justify the expense. a 74lbft N/A 1275, fair enough, but 150lbft turbo, I hope you have a dustpan brush, and a box to put all the bits in.

Save yourself a fortune and fit one of the low ratio final drives as others have said.

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
