Wow, just had an arguement on the phone with my insurance co and they have gone from just under £500 to £1000 settlement for the Vitara.
Shows they pluck figures from the sky and you should deffo not take the first offer.
Just need to prove liability now.

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

All you have to do is prove the replacement cost. My mum got an extra £800 when she stuffed her car into a motorway barrier. All she did was show equivalent cars off autotrader.

Oh dear.......... *frown*

Mine died terminally at 65k miles shortly after the warranty expired.

Dual Mass Flywheel at point of disintegration, then the turbo failed completely. I had it recovered (breakdown insurance) and just dumped it at the end of the drive as there's no room in my garage (especially it being an estate) to get it in and repair. The cost of those two repairs from Ford main agents is more than it's worth.

I hope you have better luck with yours. *oh well*

Have you still got this, and is it for sale?!

Obviously O/T but yes Tom, I still have it.

It makes a nice (but small) shed to keep some of the Mini bits in (at least it's dry inside !!!)

Long term intention is to repair it - it was a very nice car to drive esp. being the Ghia X and the 130bhp model - but the two repairs need a lot of time/space which I don't currently have.... Flywheel needs the gearbox dropping which is difficult with limited facilities (it is the 6 speed so heavy because of its unique twin outputs shaft design) and the turbo is actually integral with the whole exhaust manifold so needs a crane from the top but most of the studs/bolts are underneath.......

At the moment I just keep the battery charged (hence the cable you can see in the photo) until I get around to it.

But PM me if you're interested, I may just give up...

It is time a manufacturer sorted out how to do DMFs properly!
A friend with a garage always quotes for a new flywheel on a DMF when doing a clutch now. In fact most of the clutch manufacturers offer standard type flywheels to go with their clutch kits.

Whats the symptoms of the DMS going?

I got it as its a nice car, but at Astons they had them as poole cars, I drove them often and was really impressed.

On the Mondeo Paul it usually is a nasty rattling noise most evident at idle. The other symptom is the starter motor jamming- all the crap from the flywheel breaking up fucks up the starter motor.
To be honest I'd do what my mate does- not worry about it until it causes you a problem.

Exactly as above plus an occasional engine management warning light as the crank sensor fails to read the position of the flywheel properly.
In fairness, at its last MOT they said they had heard a lot worse than mine but still running - but they had also repaired one that had been left too long and the excess movement in the flywheel had damaged the gearbox casing.... So I was going to wait a bit longer before replacing it - then the turbo failed.....

But I agree, when they run right they are really nice cars for an estate.
