Thanks Guys.

Joey- when you say you take the doors and hinges off together do you do this using the 4 bolts under the arch? If so then mine are nackered, someone had welded a couple of them at some point and a couple are rounded off. So not a lot of chance getting them off i am afraid. If you have another way when please spill as i am a bit worried about re fitting in this way once its all painted.

Cheers

Dan to be honest I would cut off the old hinges as they are gonna be knacked after being welded on, and get some new ones.

Fit them to the doors before painting and fit the doors and hinges to car once painted.

If you've removed the door leaving the hinges on the door, use a punch to knock the studs out of the hinges and through into the wheel arch. You would need new hinges, but it sounds like you need them anyway

If they have been bodged under the wheel arch, especially if welded, it implies the studs on the hinges were shot at the time.

You can replace the studs in the hinges once they are off the car (it's tricky but can be done) but only worth it if the hinge pins are not worn.

But if you leave the hinges attached to the car and try to refit the doors using the countersunk screws, (a) you will damage the paint, and (b) you have no adjustment to centralise the door - it's done with shims between the hinge and A pillar and sliding the hinges around in the A pillar holes, there is no adjustment between the hinge and the door.

Honestly, you would be best getting the hinges off the car (just grind the remaining nuts off inside the inner wings) and see if they are repairable.

Good stuff, thanks again guys.

Looks like i know what i will be up to on Thursday then. Hope i can get the nuts off without damaging the hinge but knowing me it wont happen.

Any advice on a good place to get replacement hinges from if needed. Mini spares have non genuine ones for £54 a set so not to bad but the genuine ones are crazy money. Are the none genune ones ok?
Anyone have a set knocking around thay wana sell *smiley*

Wow it's been some time since my last update, so seeing as I have some rarely free time at work i though it would be a great time to post an update.

Loads done too much to list really so just a load of pictures, it is finally all painted (different colour to my original plan) and lots of parts have been fitted. I collected a supercharger kit the other day and my seats were delivered on monday, I will hopefully load some pics of these up later in the week.

Looks like an awesome car, really like the colour. Have you modified the boot floor for the alloy fuel tank? Also where is the tank from???

Thanks guys, I decided to change the colour mainly due to a lack of cash for the respay, the car is never going to be a show car and is solely for having fun in so I decided on a satin paint job and did it myself with plastikot rattle cans. Really pleases with the end result, with the exception of the roof as this need another coat. The colour choice came about from what was available and a looking at pictures on forums.

The tank is from a guy on ebay, he sells them with a start price of £79.99 but when i wanted one he didn’t have any advertised, I dropped him a msg on ebay and he sold me one for the start price:) I cant remember the guys user name now but i do remember he sells Allard EDG valves so a search for these should bring him up.

A few pics of the boot floor and brackets. the floor has not been modified for the tank specifically but I have removed the old battery box and added some corner brackets. I also intend to add a strap over the top of the tank to stop it falling out in the event of a crash*oh well*

A little more of an update.

My Seats arrived the other day, I am really pleased with them they are so light and a lot more comfortable than I thought they would be. I think they still may need some padding made up as you will feel every little bump with them.

I have mocked up some brackets out of 6mm MDF and plan to get the positioning right with the mdf before transferring to 5mm alloy.

Arches are all painted and fitted using self tapping screws, I like the finish of using the self tapping screws but have a horrible feeling that they bay corrode so plan to paint a few black and see how they look before changing them all.

And finally the big one, collected the second hand jonspeed supercharger kit, now i just need to make a decision whether i stick with the 998 or go for a 1275.
