you don't,

your engine is unlikley to come on boost as easily as mine...

that's a pretty fine idea!

mine is a royal pita, you only have to come to a slight incline and the load on the engine can make the turbo start to spool and whoosh out the DV, i either end up backing off or putting my hoot down so the DV closes.

hmmm, maybe i can add a throttle controlled cutoff so the dv stays shut below about 1/4 throttle....

sorted,
tbh a have a soleniod between the connecting hose to the DV for when im on the motor way, just stops all the whooshing when your cruising...

get an e-bay copy of an hks ssqv with a preload ajsut screw, and wind it in :) or modify your current dump valve with a stronger spring :)

Tom - its fine on a t3...

On other turbos its the kiss of death, a T4 for example!

Is that because of the higher inertia in bigger turbos?

seen much biggger turbo's than T4 frame units lasting 10's of thousands of miles with no dumpvalve, guess it depends on wheel and core design. Thinking of the Greddy T78/88 old school mitsubishi diesel truck turbos :) while i hate the sound normally they DO sound good when stalling.

well unfortunatly nothing is created equal....

intercoolers are easier to deal with, as looks can be a good indicator of efetiency, and pretty much the bigger the better.

turbo's however are a bit of a nghtmare, first off you have a compressor that needs to be sized correctly for the engine and pressure it will be run at, then there is the turbine, this needs to be sized to make the engine come on boost at a desired rpm...

suposedly deisel turbo's are made of lesser grade material than petrol ones as they run cooler,

the garret site has some good tech info that is worth a read :)

Its not just the size of the turbo inners - its the weights that matter and the bearings etc etc

A T4 suffers - others of a similar size may not :)

This is what happens to the bearings on a centrifugal compressor with an impellor 18" diameter, when it experiences repeated surge or rotating stall.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Would that fit on my 998?

When would it boost?

What power will i be running?

What boost will i see?

What do i need to do to get it running?

This sucker is electrical. You'll need a trailer to tow the small nuclear reactor which will produce the 1.21 gigawats of electricity needed to power the electric motor.

Didn't a lot of those Group B Quattro's get compressor stall? Majority of video i've seen of them doing stages, they get huge compressor stall with the high boost they run.

Just wondering as surely if it's really that damaging, how did they get away with it in something as intensive as rally driving.

I dont think anyone truely realises how severe surge actualy is even after seeing the carnage of damaged parts.

You realise how bad surge can get when you are standing next a machine with a large centrifugal compressor in surge. The whole building vibrates!!!!

this is the kind of gear I work on in industry

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4N1rlQOV_0

And this is one of our older packaged machines. This is actualy quite a small machine, with the impellor sizes of 10" and 12".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYe98ai7BWs

Lets see you try and fit that ON a Mini *hehe!*
