that's a pretty fine idea! mine is a royal pita, you only have to come to a slight incline and the load on the engine can make the turbo start to spool and whoosh out the DV, i either end up backing off or putting my hoot down so the DV closes. hmmm, maybe i can add a throttle controlled cutoff so the dv stays shut below about 1/4 throttle.... On 4th Nov, 2009 rubicon said: sorted, tbh a have a soleniod between the connecting hose to the DV for when im on the motor way, just stops all the whooshing when your cruising... get an e-bay copy of an hks ssqv with a preload ajsut screw, and wind it in :) or modify your current dump valve with a stronger spring :) turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Tom - its fine on a t3... On other turbos its the kiss of death, a T4 for example! Is that because of the higher inertia in bigger turbos? seen much biggger turbo's than T4 frame units lasting 10's of thousands of miles with no dumpvalve, guess it depends on wheel and core design. Thinking of the Greddy T78/88 old school mitsubishi diesel truck turbos :) while i hate the sound normally they DO sound good when stalling. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Its not just the size of the turbo inners - its the weights that matter and the bearings etc etc

This is what happens to the bearings on a centrifugal compressor with an impellor 18" diameter, when it experiences repeated surge or rotating stall.

This sucker is electrical. You'll need a trailer to tow the small nuclear reactor which will produce the 1.21 gigawats of electricity needed to power the electric motor. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

Didn't a lot of those Group B Quattro's get compressor stall? Majority of video i've seen of them doing stages, they get huge compressor stall with the high boost they run.

I dont think anyone truely realises how severe surge actualy is even after seeing the carnage of damaged parts.
