He also machined my back plate a little and I'm considering having some work done to the crank too. So I'm planning on having my rotating assembly balanced when I get that far. The van's standard setup was miles out of balance, so it's well worth doing IMO.

Aren't these 1300GT engines close to the Mk3 Cooper engine , but with stonger rods ?

This one had standard rods, pistons and crank in it.

Makes sense , I have a 1300GT engine as the bases for my turbo mini . Engine was re-built by another person. Must check the flywheel based on your post in terms of weight before installing.

It was more the thickness of the flywheel that was the problem. It wouldn't allow the straps to bend, so it had no clutch movement.

The MK3 S engine had Cooper S rods, so still stronger than the 1300GT/Innocenti ones.

However, the MK3s Crank is just a ground down 1300 one, so one could claim that the 1300GT crank was stronger becasue of the big(ger) ends *oh well*

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.
