I'm still in pain after taking the down hill bike out on the weekend, I think my nose is the only part on my body that doesn't hurt.

Although had a proper brown pants moment on the road bike last week, whilst riding past so parked cars an arctic decided to over take me, but miss judged the space leaving me with a gap of 6" more than the width of the handle bars between the parked cars and the rear wheels of the trailer.

Still I'm convinced it'll be an avalanche that'll get me, my mum freaked out a bit when she discovered what my AvaLung was for.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

went out last sat night and didnt get in till 9 oclock sunday morning- that was dangerous as the missus wasnt happy.

on way home from work tonight the traffic stopped very suddenly infront of me whilst in the fast lane, slammed brakes on (old ezzy van so no abs) and was defo gonna hit the car infront anyway i managed to steer to the right and came to a stop inbetween the car in front and central barrier, very close shave shit my self.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

I had this happen last year when I was driving the mini. It was absolutely pissing down with no grip from semi slick tyres and bugger all visibility resulted in me simply positioning the car towards the hedge to avoid the car infront and hoping for the best. Somehow I stopped.

Nothing beats a 'near miss' to get the blood pumping!

Nankang 'tyres' on the daily driver are always dangerous this time of year. Ok(ish) in the dry but an absolute nightmare in the wet - even with 4wd!! i've had the back slide out at 20mph *surprised* , and you can feel the abs kicking in every now and again whist braking briskly. As soon as i've got enough cash, they're gone!! Keeping a good distance ftw. :)

Well I just did it again. A bit drier, but just as leary.

That'll keep the adrenalin pumping for another week.

Two things for me stand out.

My first skid mark moment was falling asleep in fast heavy traffic on a main A road to Salisbury in my injection Cooper a couple of years ago then waking at 60 mph about 4 feet from the car in front, locking the brakes up, swerving into the middle of the road into oncoming traffic, missing everything coming the other way and then finally parking the car safely to rest in a gateway on the opposite side of the carriageway - defo one of my nine lives used up that day.

The other one was when I was practicing for the Royal Navy ski champs where I was entered in the last race of the week - the awesome 1.5 km 'Super G' - a course comprising pure downhill with only about 6 pairs of gates to get through. Whilst I came a very respectable 2nd in the race, it was the practice that shit me up. It's the first and only ever occasion I've ever done a 70.5 mph run on ski's. And the last. I was seriously on the verge of meeting the grim reaper.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

I was coming back form a friends house on Sat evening. It was pissing down with rain, I was in the fast lane doing about 110kph when I saw a minibus taxi in the slow lane put on its hazards and start swerving around. Next thing its right rear tire comes off the rim and heads straight for me. I tapped the brakes and swerved to the left, missing the tire by a ball hair ! The tire then hit the concrete barrier and went between the car behind me and the barrier.

ah i just remembered one ...whilst doing a rolling road calibration at amd in bicester .i theorised that the front and rear rollers were measuring different rates of losses on the coast down ,because of a problem with the rollers .

the only way to check it i could think of was to get the rollers up to speed ,then take the driving wheel off the rollers ,and let it coast down unloaded , theoretically it should read 0 losses ...

so i got my 500 turbo bike ,put it on the rollers ,sped up to 70 mph ,and pushed it off .
it skidded a bit, and the audience of mechanics that had turned up to watch me kill my self, where entertained .

so i did this a few times on front and rear rollers ,to compare .
then ,around 11.30 at night , i decided to see just how fast i could get up to ,and still get off the roller ...
for some stupid reason i did this on the front rollers that have a brick wall about 10 ft in front of it ..
i wound it up to about 100 mph ,and there was a lot of centrifugal force i could feel ,so edged it up a bit more ... got to 125 and thought hmmm ,think thats about it ,and pushed off .....

well ,considering it was onto a tiles floor , it wasnt that bad , a metre or two of uncontrolled locked front wheel skid ,then it was fine .
jobs a good un ! *happy*

haha rob your nuts

mine was on a wet rainy night, me in my civic Tuned Civic SIR, my mate in his civic EK9 type R and another friend in his integra type R..one of those " its bad weather and getting dark so take it easy..anyway we get up towards the a large round about near a long big 2 lane carriage way near the hosptial in swindon , my mate in the integra comes off the round about and floors it, i follow suit, and so does my mate in the civic, was getting twitchy but i kept my foot i nit and i nthe revs, literally just as we are coming up to the long sweeping right hand bend in the road and im looking to cut up into the inside lane to get a better line, my mate in the integra goes through a muddy puddle compeltley covers mine and the others civics windscreen..so i cant see a thing, falt out, going round a sweeping bend, round the outside as i couldnt see where my mate was, with the car progressivley edging out towards the mud and trees and what would be a BIG crash..managed to hold it and straighten it up ... after stopping my mate in the civic says he was doing 120 (and its a 50 limit) and wasnt catching me and thats when i realised how damn fast we were going and how lucky i was...havnt driven so stupidly since

I'm surprised Alex hasn't posted about his old BMW in here, driving back in pouring rain and the wipers broke. I couldn't have done it.
