No I don't have aluminium door skins. Not allowed I'm afraid.

I've removed approx 5kgs each, I cannot relly see where to loose 7 more by drilling. How much lighter is the aluminium door skin?

All good points about the roof, food for thought. I would in no way want to make the car unsafe so a fair bit more tying in would be required. However I suppose as there are not all that many fibreglassed roofs about I'm gonna go for it. The worst that can happen is I wreck the shell and have to prepare a new one. its everything bolted to it that gets expensive*happy*

Whats peoples thoughts about hacking off a very new Rover/BMH front end then? If I do it carefully I may be able to sell it for close to the cost of the fibreglass one.

And finally how is fibreglass spelt Vegard? Fiberglass or Fibreglass

I guess if you cut the A panels and the inner wings, the front should come of relativly intact and saleable. you would just need to be carefull around the skuttle/innerwing tops near the skutle.

I find a dremel gives more control and precision when trying for acurate cuts - bloody expensive in comparision to a grinder though...

Rob H. He drilled his frames on his hillclimber.

I think that is what you thinking of.

Back to the original question I'd advise against a fibre glass roof on the grounds that if you want to use the car for any form of motorsport in the future you are going to severely limit which classes you can enter.

I did until I saw these hinges:

then I saw the price and decided to stick with what I've got!

Just weighed my drilled hindges and they come to just under 1kg for all four. So by going for ally ones I'd save another 600 grams, which currently is not worth £250, I reckon I could save more weight for less money else where on the car.

Just had heart attack - my curley carbon doors weigh 1kg each and cost me £200 for the pair. Carbon weazel's are 1.6kg with the 90g alloy hinges and cost £950 (£700) - gulp!
