Another +1 for the VAG camp. My Golf Bluemotion is brilliant. Never misses a beat, delivers 60mpg+, smooth, quiet, good ride, handles reasonably well, well equipped and although it's not going to set your world on fire it's quick enough.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

The Bluemotion is Common rail, isn't it? A completely different ballpark. When did the "Vorsprung Durch Technic" first build Common rail engines? 2008?? *wink*

Nope. Mine is a MK5 which is a re-engineered 1.9PD not common rail.

On a side note before the Golf I had a 2005 Passat with more or less the same engine in it and never had a problem with that either. In many ways the Passat was superior apart from the mpg and equipment levels.

Going from a broken 320d to a work vag seems a plan.
The 330d is a common rail engine where my 320d is a pump type thing so only put out 136bhp and isn't as tunable

I'm Vag all the way. Never buy anything else. 5 mk2's, 2 mk3's, seat ibiza, seat leon. But all of mine have either been, vr6, GTI or Cupra's. As for diesals, i leave them to tractors!

Got a A3 for the other half which is a good car.
The BM has been in at a speiclist rather than a deal they have tried to get the injectors out but they won't shift. So the head needs to come off but the head bolts are under the rocker cover which can't come off with out taking the injector out. So there stuck.

Injectors seized to the head seems very odd to me.

Is your specialist not trying to buy the car cheap from you hence pretending it can't be fixed ?

Like Vegard, I would say : keep the bimmer ...

IIRC Mondeo TDCi's at that age have a reputation for flywheel and turbo problems at around the 60k mark. I believe it was sorted in the later models.

Stay with BMW,common rail,4cyl is good but the 6cyl is god's engine-inline so perfect balance and great performance/economy.It even sounds good.(I don't work for them, just love the engines) *Clapping*

I keep catching myself thinking about a Chrysler 300C Tourer with the 6 cylinder diesel engine for my next car.

Wrong grille, mirrors, wheels and colour and a really bad angle on the pic. They look quite good in black or silver.

Nice thing, I nearly bought one, but they are holding a lot of money at the moment, and being a Ford will at some point lose money quickly. A good buy in a couple of years IMO.

Mondeo's are OK and as VAG's are really sought for (for good reason), prices are high so Mondeo can score in this departement too.

The estate Chrysler is very special.

I have the feeling that is an american thinked car with all the differences between american and european market wich make it a very different car for better and for worse ...

(don't like them and yes, european car rules !)

right the choice has been made for me. Car has failed the MOT big time. Way WAY over of the emmisons. so its currently worth pritty much nothing. I can;t aford to loss this kind of money on the car so.. i have been to the "internet" and found just the tool. Made JUST for removing injectors from MY engine and only this engine. SO one has been orderd and a local BMW speicalist is going to carry out the work.
Its currenlty in there garage soaking in penertration oil. so we should find out what happens soon.
Should of brought a rover.

still waiting for the car back. Breath is clogged and the handbrake needs work before the MOT so fingers crossed for next week. But to keep me busy the central heating has packed up. Time to learn some new skills.

its got worse. Should have a MOT tomorrow after £1200 of work but, now being told the diesial pump bearings are leaking and fuel is being pumped in to the oil over filling the oil. think we can geuss how that would end after a long trip. So the plan is to go down see how the car is driving if its still down on power and running pants then its being sold to a car dealer. if its running much better then yet more cash will be poored at it and a new pump put on. GOD I HATE MODERN CARS!!
could of rebuilt the mini engine completley for less than getting a MOT on this. COULD OF HAD A 7 PORT HEAD. this sucks.
