No reason at all not to fit an external condenser - and a spare ready to wire in if necessary.

My car club has had very mixed results with the Britpart conversion, mostly unreliable to a degree.

i was actually wondering if you can run two wired up permanent together , that way if one died the engine would keep going ?

Not sure about that but in any case how would you know one had gone until the second one packed up and you are then in the brown and sticky stuff anyway.

What does a condensor actually do?

When the points separate it stops the electricity arcing between the two. So if the condensor fails then the points don't do anything at all, as in they mayaswell be permanently closed, so then the coil will not charge up, so the engine doesn't fire. It is essentially a small capacitor.

ring problems are down to wear or abuse but although annoying it isn't a show stopper

this is a good read,

A condensor is just a capacitor, Considering the shocking quality of the current condensors I cant belive that no one (except swiftune) have looked at finding an upgrade... you need is a capacitor of approx 0.25uF (250nf) with a high voltage rating (about 600v) somthing like this should do the trick.

althogh the best solution is to eliminate the poxy thing totally
