The beauty of this engine spec is it shows you can have thundering bottom end torque with a good top end HPon a mildish cam, if you are willing to move the torque curve up the rpm band with something like a 296+ cam the power will take off at the top end.

I was just comparing this curve with your 1380 twink with sprint cams.

This is better up to around 6000rpm - well done, something useful.

I thought you were doing a bit of a fire breather John, I do feel a bit let down as impressive as this is

I seriously doubt it!

Well the majority of people will probably build road burners like this - remember thses are "real" numbers not some ficticious rolling road extrapolated, fudged bar banter figures - lets see how it puts its output to the road on a rolling road day!

Am I correct in thinking that this nearly performs as well as your demo car?

Really nice John well done on the super quick time frame your really turned that around, I my self just came back from dynoing a customers 5 port race engine so see as how I had all the data in Excel I taught it might be nice to compair your seven port with a 5 porter sorry for the colours I was done befour I spotted it,

The 5 port was spec as follows:
1380cc
standard A+ botom end with 11cc omegas
HRE race cylinder head with 37mm inlet and 30mm exhaust,
Piper 300 cam
11:1 compression
weber 45
Aldon red dizzy
Mini spares light weight clutch.

Heres how they compare:

Something doesn't add up in that graph. Either the torque or the HP is not on the same scale because the 5 port torque is lower but the HP is higher.

Definately something wrong, they should both cross at 5252rpm.

That's a bit unfair Paul, comparing a race 5 port with 50 years of development against a road/rally 7 port that was just a drawing a few weeks ago.

I was going to say the graphs don't appear to be the same scale as the the HP & Torque curves don't cross where I'd expect them to.

My fault Entirety I scaled the 5 port wrong one chart started at 2000rpm the other at 2500rpm anyway there ya are,

Paul S, I think its commends Johns work he has managed to get as you say a cylinder head that was but a drawing to a working prototype in a few months and it beets the pants of a full race 5 port straight out of the box and with a much milder cam we have a lot to see come from this head cant wait,
P.s. look at the torque on the 5 port is no where as nice

Thats really good info Paul - thanks for posting it up - its one of the only "real" dyno curves from a hot 5 port I've seen.

helps to dispel the myth that 135bhp 5 porters are common place!

Not haven driven it I'd have to say it looks a very good profile and a lot less cammy than say a piper 285/2 or MD286. The 7 port came on song at 2500 but it was happy enough at 2000rpm steady state with big throttle openings over 50% and still made the numbers down there- looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Joe - unfortunately we didn't get a chance to video the head being made as the timescales were so crazy. As they are being made round the corner from us here in Norfolk we will try our best to put together one of those lovely US style vids!

Before we made this first head we did "rapid prototype" a head by 3D printing it (16 hours straight on the machine). You end up with a head exactly as the cad model which you can then poke around the ports/water ways and trial fit etc. We'll have this at Bingley - too look at from a distance as it is fragile and bleedin expensive.lol!

£1500 for an assembled head or £3000 with injectors, throttle bodies, ecu etc.
