Isn't this just semantics?

In this thread the problem could have been either and I think this thread has explored nicely the possilbe solutions.

hello.
Fuel starvation are problems that can affect internal combustion engines fuel led by either diesel, kerosene, petroleum or any other combustible liquid or gas.If no fuel is available for an engine to burn, it cannot function. Fuel starvation is slightly different from fuel exhaustion, in that fuel is in the tank but there is a supply problem which either fully or partially prevents the fuel from reaching the engine.

Sorry to comment late but..

You say you had a lean spot in 4th gear.

My experience is that using a thick dashpot oil masks a lean needle in the lower gears and by the time you get to 4th gear the true nature of the needle is exposed.

What I am trying to say here is that when you run a 1/4 mile you spend *this is a guess* 2 seconds in first, 3 in second 4 in third, the rest in 4th. what happens is that in these lower gears the piston never ever reaches its maximum lift because of the thick oil, so the mixture is always "falsely" rich. In top gear you are sitting on a WOT for a lot longer and it does eventually get to its maximum position.. THEN you see the lean needle.

Just a thought..

you make a very good point Terry and i had considered this hence my comment on the think oil.. i used your guide to adjust the needle but couldn’t get it to run well without the thicker oil..

after changing the filter i think i will thin the oil slightly and try adjusting the needle again.

thanks
