I'm using shell helix at the moment at roberts recomendation, as it has lots of zzppddpdpdppdpdp

seems good if a little thin, (only available in 10-40) and cheap at about 18 quid a change.

Are these fully mineral or synthetic stuff?

Dont want to spend a fortune on oil as its a daily drive and gets some miles on it quickly.

I was thinking the same *hehe!*

The only issue with high ZZDP stuff is the degradation of the Lambda sensor, especialy on high mileage engines

I have been looking at wet clutch motorcycle oils perhaps fully synthetic, but i'm not overly sure. something like this http://www.motorcycle-road-and-race.co.uk/...ducts_id=406275

Cost is not really an issue for me

I'm using Castrol 15W40 at the moment. Next oil I try will be a semi-synthetic 15W50 ester motorbike oil, meant for shared oil circuits. And best of all, it's affordable :) (~5€/l)).

But I'm not sure if you can just change from 'normal' oil to an ester oil?

well your in a better position due to your cam arrangement,

I'd certainly rather swap a lambda sensor than a cam and followers

Sprock, DT's or A B Garage in Hawarden both sell CTV. AB's sell it by the L not that far from you.

Good to know for future, but im looking at the benefits of a full synthetic oil for the gearbox. Im also going back to the 10w40 rather than the treakle that most seem to use *hehe!*

Mineral oils and ester oils will mix happily with each other and stay that way. when seperately poured they will settle, but onece mixed, the ester oil molecules cling to the mineral oil molecules. It is a common misconception that they dont like each other, especialy in refrigeration, when its more often than not, actualy a difference in viscosity that really matters. Engine oils have a similar quirk, but the recomendation is to go for a thinner full synthetic than you would use for mineral.

Ok, thanks Sprocket! :) So I can just change without trouble. That's good!

Btw. that's the oil: http://www.ravenol.de/products?l=en&part=394 - they make a full and semi-synthetic 15W50, eventhough it says 'full'. And 5€/liter is affordable for what they say it is, I guess?

bike oil seems like a winner as it has to deal with the gearbox too, has anyone actually tried it?

I use the same oil in my race Mini as I do in my race motorbike. 25W50 racing oil with lots of ZDDP. Both have shared oil for gear/engine.

Remember, not all bikes have got this arrangement.
