I'm a bit torn on this one. Yes it's a bodge, no question, there is a propper way to do it.

But, it's not dangerous, and the idea is that it covers up the sun roof hole.

I think a new sunroof and a bit of filling and pannel beating would be the answer. Especially if you were selling it.

It's not something that I would ever do.

I was going to comment about the fact you wouldn't re-skin a door and leave the original skin on.. or weld sills over the original sills.

I'm a common poster on TMF, but it's so soppy at times. Family forum and all.. good to poke fun at people though.

Bloody over sills, ive just pulled mine of and found the original had rotten through the inner sill and floor pan.

Had the same a few years back - Minibitz (I think?) in Bolton did this to me. Tw@ts.

Back to the topic - maybe the FG roof could be removed after a week or 2 and the old roof would've magically repaired itself? Oh, wait, no. I'm confusing a FG roof with an Elastoplast on my finger.

Perhaps the sunroof was a Webasto fabric sunroof, so the glassfibre roof will from a distance look like the original fabric *surprised* *surprised*

Hum, I'm actually going to be fitting a CF roof over the steel roof on my clubby, regs say I have to keep the steel roof which is sadly both warped & dented.

Why not cut off your roof and put a new one on?

A few moments with a spot welder and jobs a good one, itll be better and lighter than bodging on a horrible carbon/fibreglass one on

It takes a bit longer than Nic suggests, but it's no harder than a wing.

How do you seal it off completely? As far as I understand they were roller welded originaly? Loads of spotwelds or do you just use seam sealer? :)

I'd love a new roof skin... Bloody leaking sunroof! Gives me a ice cold shower every morning *oh well* *angry*

Depends on the year. My 78 shell's orginal roof was rollered. I used some sections from a later car to repair the a posts. These had spot welds about 1/4" apart on the roof skin join.

Panel seal on the outside and inside takes care of sealing it - that's how they came out of the factory (I had to scrape a load of).

Thats interesting! I thought they were all roller welded. I should have a closer look at my car :) Thanks!
