Re. avgas, i know that the higher octane prevents pinking and or knock, so a higher octane shouldnt really benefit a car thats not pushing the limits of its compression/advance...

I would have thought this was potentialy bad as AvGas has a high content of lead which will poison the cat and lambda sensor
